Henry VIII – King & Collector

Join us for a Zoom talk on Thursday 18 February 2021,
7.45pm for 8.00pm start.

Dear <<First Name>>,

I hope all is well with you. Following the success of our last two talks, the events team have been busy and we have lined up some more virtual talks for the next few months – until we are able to meet up again in person.

The first will be on Thursday 18 February from one of our regular speakers, Siobhan Clarke, a Guide Lecturer at Historic Royal Palaces.

If you would like to join us, the link to the Zoom talk is after the following introduction.

Henry VIII – King & Collector

Henry VIII was an ardent patron of the arts whose tapestries and paintings adorned his lavish court and began the Royal Collection. All his commissions relate to one central tale: self-glorification. His life can be seen through his art collection and the works tell us much about both his kingship and his insecurities. This is a story of art, power and propaganda in Tudor England.

Siobhan Clarke BA (Hons) has worked for Historic Royal Palaces for 20 years, delivering tours and lectures on the palaces. She is an author and historian. Her latest book, ‘King and Collector: Henry VIII and the Art of Kingship’, will be published by The History Press in April 2021.

How to make the most of our Zoom talk

Please make sure that you have an updated version of Zoom running on your device before the talk. It will be great to see all your faces so make sure you are well lit and have your device set up on a stand in a comfortable place.

When you click on the invitation link, the following things might happen:

  • You might be asked if you want to start Zoom, if so answer “Yes”.
  • You might be asked to enter your name, if so then this will be the name that is displayed to everyone during the session so please enter your full name.
  • You might be asked to enter the Meeting Passcode, which is also below.
  • You will be asked to “Join with Video”, this is a long blue button below your image, click on this button.
  • You will then join the meeting and be asked “Call using Internet Audio”, click on this.
  • When we start you should all have video and audio on so that I can see and hear you, sort out any problems and answer any questions. As soon as you are connected and can see and hear me, you should switch off your video and audio by clicking on “Mute” and “Stop Video”. This will avoid any unintended noise or interference throughout the talk.

If you have a question during the talk then click on “Chat” and just type the question. When you press the ‘Enter’ key, everyone will see the question and our speaker will try to answer it. Bear with them as they might not notice the question for a while.

At the end, our speaker will stay online until everyone leaves and if anyone has a question feel free to ask.
