Taking place 29-30 July at the picturesque Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield, the event will see the country’s finest swimmers race for national honours in the Masters and Age Group Championships as well as newcomers in the popular Team2K.

The best thing about the Swim England National Open Water Festival is that it’s completely free for spectators, so family and friends can come along to support swimmers and enjoy the festival atmosphere on the shore.

Swim England Qualifications

Swim England have produced a new area which is a one stop shop for finding any qualifications in your local area.
http://swimenglandqualifications.com/
This has been developed to give people who are starting or continuing their swimming teacher journey an easy way to find out about new courses and how to sign up. It also provides lots of useful information about each qualification and the relevant CPDs.
As with any new website, it will be updated and added to over the course of the next few weeks and months.

Congratulations to Mount Kelly Swimming for achieving Swim Mark Performance

The Performance module provides a benchmark for clubs coaching and developing high-level athletes across the four sports (swimming, diving, water polo and synchro).
Clubs need to demonstrate that athlete pathways, the physical environment, quality coaching practices and support services are all in place for athletes to reach the pinnacle of their aquatic sport.  Performance standards are measured by England Programmes.
Congratulations again to Mount Kelly Swimming.

Blended Level 2 Swimming Teacher Pilot @ Hengrove

The Institute of Swimming are piloting a Blended L2 Swimming Teacher course at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre this July. This is an exciting new product they are launching which allows learners to become trained as a L2 Teacher by completing eLearning 6 weeks prior to a set of 5 days face to face. This is a great way to gain the qualification that fits around the learners busy schedules and doesn’t take the full 8 days of a Face to Face L2 course.
The dates for the Blended L2 at Hengrove are:
eLearning Starts – 9th July, 2018
Face to Face Days – Tuesday 7th – Saturday 11th Aug
Cost - £580, this includes 1 year Free Membership to the Institute of Swimming
If you click here it will take you to the booking page for the course.
Closing date is set as the 2nd July at midnight.

Snapshot: Clubs Training Needs Analysis

As a Region one of our aims to help clubs to develop a varied workforce which aids with the effective running of clubs.
In order to be able to understand what is needed by the clubs a Training Needs Analysis can take place.
What is an analysis?
Through this analysis we look at all of the qualifications that are available and what is needed by the clubs, this can be dine on a face to face basis when meeting with clubs or can be done on a larger scale.
What have we done?
As a region we have developed a survey which outlines qualifications and workshops that are available to clubs. This ranges from coaching qualifications through to workshops about protecting and projecting voices.
We ask if all clubs could please complete the survey through the below link.
What do we do with the results?
Once we have received these surveys we can start to shape the courses and opportunities which are available in each County based on what the clubs are asking for.
Thank you to those clubs who have already completed this, we will be in touch regarding the needs identified. Without clubs completing these we do not know where the demand for courses is.
For those clubs who need to complete this please click here to find the survey.

Team Bath AS Early Season L3 Sprint Meet

Entries are open for the Team Bath AS Early Season L3 Sprint Meet - 50m & 100m swims in all strokes plus 100IM at Horfield Leisure Centre on Saturday 8th September.

Although clubs that may be taking part in Junior League there may be swimmers that are not involved that would be interested.
Development Opportunity for Trainee Officials.
This is the perfect opportunity if you are a club that has Trainees certified as having completed the Timekeeper element of their J1 training. They can complete page 8 of the meet pack and email officialsteambathas@btinternet.com to see if they can get some valuable time being mentored early in the new season.
Development Opportunity for Team Managers and Young Volunteers
As a club you may wish to give some of your less well experienced Team Managers the chance of coming to a friendly meet with your team.
The next generation of volunteers are extremely important to aquatics so your young volunteers could get involved helping your team pool side or helping Team Bath AS run the meet.
Get next season off to a flying start.

Officials Training and the Processes to follow

All training in the South West is arranged through a coordinator in each county - please see below for details on your County Contact.  All clubs need new Officials to train every year.  Your help will be appreciated.

If you have any questions about the training opportunities or you want to request training as an individual or club you should get in touch with your county coordinator.

They all hold waiting lists and will arrange courses at regular intervals throughout the year to meet the requests received.  This might either be for groups of people from different clubs or (when numbers are large enough) for a single club.   To ensure viable numbers, especially in the smaller Counties, the Coordinators might invite all the clubs in their county to recruit others to attend a course on pre arranged dates several times a year.   The Coordinators arrange for approved course tutors to lead every course.   To complete every qualification requires theory and most importantly  mentored poolside practice before final poolside assessments.

Any general questions can be asked of your Regional Officials Training and Development Coordinator
Jill Beard by email at beardfamilyuk@icloud.com

It’s important to remember that before anyone can commence training as an official they must be a member of a club or, if that is not appropriate, the Institute of Swimming.

We look forward to welcoming you to the family of Officials in the South West
