South West Snap Shot - GoCardless

Each month we will be highlighting a relevant topic, this month it is GoCardless Payments.

Currently swimming clubs accept cash, cheque, standing order and BACS transfer payments. They also may have many different tariffs for groups based on frequency of swimming or the type of membership/. On top of this clubs may also have yearly membership fees to cover things such as ASA membership or open meet entry fees.

Any cash or cheque payments the club received must be deposited into the back which can be very time consuming. Standing order and BACS transfers can come in throughout the month sometimes poorly labelled resulting in the club not knowing who has paid their fees for that particular month. Sadly when people do not pay their fees at all which results in lost funds for the club.

By using GoCardless clubs can set up payments to be collected by monthly Direct Debit. In addition to this clubs are able to collect payment for other things such as entry meet fees or swim team kit.
The changeover to Direct Debit will make payment easier for both the club and the individual members. All payments can be taken on the same date of the month helping with monitoring cash flow.

Should any changes need to be made to the fees, such as price increases, clubs are able to change this centrally for all members resulting in now wasted time having to change standing orders.

In the event of a swimmer changing from one to two sessions per week resulting in a price increase, this change will now be handed via the club. Members will will receive emails and will therefore have sufficient notice of any changes in Direct Debit amounts.

With Direct Debit there is no need for members to worry about missing a payment and your members are always protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. Did you know with Standing Orders there is no legal protection for payments you make opposed to Direct Debit.
