Hoppy April BOMBers!

Well time sure does fly when your writing newsletters, brewing beer, entering competitions, representing the club at events and working full time! But here we are again time for some more news. We've been pretty busy since last I wrote. We had a great turn out at the 1st round of the Bombing Run, a lot of delicious beers were had. Hope you're all preparing for the next round, where Saison will be the style, coming in June.
We finally got our S#!t together and held the 2nd annual Brü Route Challenge. And what do you know, we won. What a fun time! Got to meet some great homebrewers, eat lots of delicious food and of course drink some of the finest homebrew around! We will be getting a trophy soon which will be displayed for all to see. The trophy will remain with us until next year when we have to defend our championship!
We finally got around to pulling our beer out of the whiskey barrel for the Keystone Big Barrel Brew Competition. And I have to tell you, IT WAS DELICIOUS! Hopefully we will have some to share at this months club meeting. Which, by the way is going to be AMAZEBALLS!!! Ed Coffey is coming in to talk to us about barrel aging. I for one can not wait for this presentation,(and hopefully samples, Ed!!!) Wink wink. Let us all wish for a problem free commute to the Pig for ED. I will have my AAA card ready just in case...
We will be pouring at the Brandywine Valley Craft Beer Fest in Media in May. We'll be looking for beer donations to serve. We'll let you know when we have more details.
Also, we have a barrel to fill. Thoughts are to fill and age something in our Dad's Hat whiskey barrel that we will be able to serve at this years holiday party. We'll put out a survey to see what beer goes in it. And then hopefully have a group brew day for that. More details to come.

APRIL CLUB NIGHT-BARREL AGING FOR BEGINERS

April 19, 7 PM Sterling Pig

We are excited to welcome a local friend, homebrewer and all around good guy, Ed Coffey. Ed writes about many topics at http://www.alesoftheriverwards.com/ and manages a line of mixed fermentation barrel aged beers for Kelly Green Brewing Co. in Pitman, New Jersey. Ed has partnered with Brülosphy, is an advocate for NEIPAs and has a keen insight in barrel usage and maintenance.

Ed will be bringing some samples of barrel aged beers, and will talk about how to start a home barrel program, and how to best use your barrels for ideal results. Lets get Funky!

2018 BRÜ ROUTE HOMEBREW CHALLENGE

Great showing by the BOMB at The Brü Route Challenge! Congratulations to Dan Copper, Michael Kinsley and Chris Noll. With your great beers we were able to win the Club - Best Of Show!

2018 BIG BARREL BREW COMPETITION

A competition that started in July of 2017 and ended in April 2018! All the best homebrew clubs in the region brewed beer ,aged it in Dad's Hat Rye Whiskey barrels, then served up there best creaations. There were the usual big beers, stouts, porters, doppelbocks etc. etc. All well in the double digit abv's. But then our , think outside the box brewers, Sean Mellody, Michael Kinsley and Jesse Fast brewed an AMAZING ESB. (On one of the hottest days of the year). It was fantastic! I can tell you i had my fair share of samples. It was definitely a crowd favorite, but alas, we were not to be victorious this night. Job well done by all the brewers. And a special thanks to our members that represented us and served our fantastic creation at the event, Becky Soleman, Jesse Fast, Andy Poole, Rich Miele and Dan Copper. We'll get em next year!!!

2018 Bombing Run

Congratulations to Mike Kinsley, our inaugural BOMBing Run Champion! He will be looking to defend his championship in 2018 and it's up to you to brew your best beers to take the trophy home in 2018. To that end, we have made a few adjustments to the BOMBing Run rules for this year and also have finalized the details on the beer styles for each round.

Homebrewing was illegal from Prohibition until Feb. 1, 1979, when it was legalized under President Jimmy Carter. However, it remained illegal in many states until 2013, when Mississippi and Alabama became the last states to officially legalize homebrewing.
