Poem as Portal

Saturday, November 12th, from 10-noon

On Zoom

"Let us remember… that in the end we go to poetry for one reason, so that we might more fully inhabit our lives and the world in which we live them, and that if we more fully inhabit these things, we might be less apt to destroy both.”     ~ Christian Wiman

Friends create a space in which whatever we are seeking may find us.  We take a single poem where we need it to go, and from that new perspective discover what had been hidden.  Join thoughtful, respectful seekers in new explorations, and share in the harvest.  If you are not already on Judith’s monthly mailing list, contact her through Breeze to receive this month's poem, queries, quotes and Zoom link.  Everyone joining in should bring a journal or other materials to use during time for quiet reflection.  You are warmly invited.

Meeting for Business This Sunday

Our next meeting for worship for the conduct of business will be at 12:15 on November 13.  Please plan to enjoy pot-luck at the meetinghouse or at home and then to join in worship as we turn our attention to business.  Carole Hoage will serve as Interim Clerk while Marcy Seitel recovers from surgery.  If you have items that are prepared for the agenda, please contact Carole Hoage (via Breeze). Here, for your reference, is the link to the folder of documents that we will need for our meeting.

From Adelphi Meeting's  Climate Action Group

Something new to learn.  This week, watch the Quakerspeak video, “Quakers Talk to Congress about Climate Change.”

You never change something by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.
~ Buckminster Fuller

From the Change Group - a New (First) Second Friday Film

Our next film discussion is scheduled for the second Friday of December -- the 9th -- at 7 p.m. The film for that evening's discussion will be "Gather," produced by Sanjay Rawal, available on Hoopla and Kanopy, among other sources. "Gather" is an intimate portrait of a growing movement among Indigenous Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities through obtaining sovereignty over their ancestral food.

From Paula Palmer and Friends Peace Teams

"Roots of Injustice, Seeds of Change: Toward Right Relationship with Native Peoples," is an interactive history workshop that many of us at Adelphi participated in several years ago.  That workshop is now being offered online.  Next opportunity is November 12, 4-6 pm Eastern time.  Jerilyn DeCoteau (Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and others will facilitate. Please Register here

On November 15, 7-9 pm Eastern time, Paula Palmer, Gail Melix (Wampanoag) and Andrew Grant will offer a slide presentation on Quaker Indigenous Boarding Schools, hosted by Beacon Hill Friends House and New England Yearly Meeting. Register here.
