Meetings for Worship and Children's Programs

On Sunday mornings we gather in a "blended" meeting at 10 am, in the meeting house and on Zoom.  For those attending virtually, here is the Zoom link for Sunday worship and second hours.  Please scroll down to the box below, titled "How We Meet for Worship" for details about the blended meeting, about outdoor meetings at 8:45 and 10:00 am on Sundays, and about Sunday evening and mid-week meetings.

Junior Meeting - This is a treasured opportunity on the fourth Sunday each month for children to meet together in worship, accompanied by a few adult Friends.  Meeting begins at 10:00, either in the memorial garden, or in the white house if needed for inclement weather.

Children's Summer Program - On first through third Sundays (and on the fifth Sunday in July) children ages 5 to 11 will be with their families in meeting for worship for the first 20 minutes, and then go outdoors for a planned activity with two adult volunteers.  Wouldn't you like to be one of those volunteers for just one Sunday?  You can sign up here.

For the smaller children, ages 0 through kindergarten, the Nursery opens from 10 a.m. to 11:30 each Sunday.

Help Wanted

Many thanks to new volunteers who have come forward to help ensure that our Sunday worship runs smoothly and safely.  We could still use a few more Zoom hosts who make sure that the virtual connection is up and running and troubleshoot any problems that might arise (including assisting participants who might be experiencing difficulties in connecting to the Meeting).

We also need a few more greeters at the Meetinghouse to welcome participants and verify their vaccine status.  Detailed directions (and training as needed) for both the Zoom host and greeters will be available for volunteers. Please contact Cheryl Morden (via Breeze) with questions, and - better yet - offers to volunteer

Minutes - What We Did

Between the hours of 12 and 2 on Sunday, June 12, 2022

Draft minutes from the June 12 meeting for business are available here for your reference and corrections. Please send any corrections to recordingclerk@adelphifriends.org.

An Apprentice Opportunity?

The Silent Announcements editor will be away for a while in October.  The thought occurs to the editor that it would be a good idea to have someone else who knows how to put these news bits together. The editor would welcome the interest of someone with "next generation level" ease with publications technology (who can probably teach the editor a thing or two) or someone with a good heart and limited technical ability - because it's really not all that difficult.  Love of writing seems to be essential.  If interested, please contact the editor at this link in Breeze.

How to Sneak Back into Camp as an Adult -- for Free!

All three of our Baltimore Yearly Meeting camp sites need more volunteers -- and Catoctin needs more than any of them -- especially in the kitchen. If you're interested and able to volunteer for a week or two, or even if you're just curious, please check out the Volunteers page of the camps' website to learn more. There's also more information in last Friday's Silent Announcements.

Nurturing Faithfulness

New England Yearly Meeting sponsors a comprehensive program for Friends who are ready to go deeper in their spiritual explorations. The program, called Nurturing Faithfulness, includes two in-person long weekend conferences in September and May and a year's worth of study, contemplation and worship sharing with other Friends in the program.  Adelphi Meeting can assist with the cost of fees and transportation.  If you feel led to take this step, don't let cost stand in your way.

You can find more information about the program here. The organizers remind us that the application process involves reflection on discernment questions and a letter of support.  Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until the program fills with a final deadline of September 1.  Melanie Gifford has participated in the program and is happy to have a conversation with anyone who is considering exploring this option.

Thinking Through Reparations?

Here's an excellent article by Kevin L. Matthews II, an award-winning investment advisor, on the cost of racist practices to the U.S. economy.  Reparations are not just about slavery, he demonstrates, but about the stubbornly persistent racism built into U.S. economic systems.  Citing the racial wage gap and unfair mortgage lending practices as just two examples, he points to "the $16 trillion lost [to the U.S. economy] because of racist practices that have occurred in the past 20 years alone."

How We Meet For Worship

On Sunday mornings, we gather in a "blended" meeting at 10 am:  In the meeting house and on Zoom.  For those attending virtually,  here is the Zoom link for Sunday worship and second hours. For those attending in person, masks and vaccinations are still required, to protect the vulnerable among us. Also, we can't sing in the meeting room.  Please see the general guidelines here for everyone who enters the meetinghouse for worship.

On Sunday mornings at 8:45 and at 10:00, there is an outdoor meeting in the Memorial Garden. These meetings are not 'blended" with the Zoom-and-indoor-meeting. (At 10:00 on the 4th Sunday of each month, we meet behind the meetinghouse, to leave the Memorial Garden available for Junior Meeting.

On Sunday evenings at 7 pm, Adelphi Meeting convenes an on-line meeting for worship. Here is the Zoom link for that meeting. (Meeting ID is 823 9626 3173 and passcode is 734636).

On Wednesdays at noon, Adelphi Meeting convenes a midweek meeting for worship for healing with a concern for a broken nation. Here is the recurring link to the Wednesday noon meetings.

Takoma Park Friends Meeting Preparative meets on Sundays in-person indoors at 11:30 am and by Zoom at 7:30 pm. On Thursdays at 6:30 pm, Friends meet in-person outdoors (weather permitting).

See more details for all these gatherings, including Takoma Park Friends gatherings, in this attachment.
