Club Closure Updates 🏓

January 2021

One again, we are sad to have to close the club for the time being during this further lockdown period. The food hub is still seen as an essential service so will continue and we have resumed our online activities once again with a regular weekly Monday show from 5 to 6pm, as well as some music and fitness online.

During this lockdown, it is still possible to exercise outdoors with others within the same household, support bubble or one other person from another household once a day with social distancing but please follow the national guidance for exercise, and stay safe.

At home you can play AllStars TT, the new free table tennis experience that can be played on any suitable table. Already 300 players have signed up to compete, so do register if you haven’t already done so. It’s a great way to keep active and have fun climbing up the leaderboard. Remember, the more games you play, the higher you climb to join the 50 club, the 100 club and beyond. Get the t-shirt prize collection as you go and make this lockdown period mean something positive. 🏓

Check the leaderboard and register to play AllStars TT!

Lockdown Challenge! 🥇

During this lockdown, we want to encourage everyone to keep active and connected through an exciting platform where you can record your daily/weekly activities. It can be a long/short run, an afternoon dog walk, a morning bicycle ride... Anything counts!

It's simple to use and it links really nicely to the parkrun resolution initiative, set yourself a goal for January/February and let's help to motivate each other to reach it!

To get started:
Download the Strava App (you can do this on Play Store or Apple Store on your phone) and it's free!
On the bottom, you'll have a few straightforward settings, click on "Explore"
Go to "Clubs" and search "Brighton Table Tennis Club" to join the group
Whenever you decide to do your activity, click on "Record" and start your activity!
If you decide to go for a walk, please record it as a run so it can be added to the weekly leaderboard (the pace is not important, the goal is to keep active)

Kames Farm, Oban, Scotland is where Mary-Jane (BTTC legend Henry Crallen's wife) moved to in Scotland last year and we wanted to visit in the summer of 2020, but obviously couldn't. It's 521 miles from BTTC to Kames Farm. We want BTTC to collectively run or walk 521 miles there and then 521 miles back in January and February. 1042 miles is 1676km.
We would love to see as many people as possible contributing towards our goal to have a virtual collective run/walk to Kames Farm and back (1676km/1042miles) by the end of February. You can contribute in any way possible, even if it's a walk to the supermarket! If you don't wish to use this App, but would like to take part, you can log your mileage and send it directly to Pedro -

…and back!

BTTC Loves parkrun 🏓❤️🏃‍♀️

And here is a fantastic initiative that we can all get involved with in January and February of 2021.

There’s no doubt that it has been an incredibly challenging year for us all. As we look ahead optimistically to the New Year, we all need opportunities to nurture ourselves and the health of our communities. We would love for you to join us in doing just that, through The parkrun Resolution.

Launching on Monday 4 January, The parkrun Resolution is an eight week, global campaign to encourage everyone, no matter who they are or where they live, to take steps towards a more active, healthy future. The steps can be big or small, they can involve walking, running or another activity entirely. We would love to see people pledging to help people in their community achieve a new goal or make a family resolution to get outside and move that little bit more. Those who aspire to walk a few minutes each day could aim to do just that, whilst more experienced parkrunners might want to improve their 5k time and can join with others to achieve that dream. There really are no rules, just a shared passion for making the new year the start of something special.

During the eight weeks we will be providing huge doses of encouragement, guidance and motivation, and calling on people to share their #parkrunresolution passion with everyone they meet, whether that is in person or virtually.
