A message from Laura Ewing, Chair
The Wimberley Democrats Steering Committee has voted to respond to the statements made by the Mayor of Woodcreek, Texas, when she posted on her Facebook that Black Lives Matter is a “threat to our lives” together with other erroneous and misleading statements about it being a Socialist and Marxist organization.
We attempted to speak at the City Council meeting on June 10, 2020. I registered to speak as I arrived at the meeting but was silenced because only items listed on the agenda could be addressed.
City Council member Brent Pulley stated several times that to not allow me to address the Council is a violation of my first amendment rights. The mayor asked that he be removed. The result was that my voice that was to represent the beliefs of the Democratic Party was not heard. I was not allowed to speak.
News media was present and the Wimberley Democrats were interviewed outside the building and statements were included in various newspapers. These can be found on our Facebook page.
We have released several other statements and Letters to the Editor that have been included in the Wimberley View. The story is ongoing.
At the request of three City Council Members, a Special Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 25 at 1 pm.
People will be allowed to submit comments by noon on Wednesday, June 24 or to speak at the time of the meeting. This will be a call-in meeting and that information is on their website. I will register to speak on behalf of the Wimberley Democrats, again.
As the Chair of the Wimberley Democrats, I feel that it is important that our membership be apprised of actions that we take.
