What has AMuslimFund been up to?

Our "LaunchGood Swag" has arrived! For those who participated in our LaunchGood Ramadan campaign, thank you for waiting so patiently for your swag. You should expect to receive them mid-November, God-willing.

Since our campaign, our Board of Directors has been hard at work setting up our infrastructure, liaising with potential partners, and finalizing our policies and procedures to build a sound foundation for our organization.

Over the next few months, we are planning some exciting projects so keep an eye out for announcements! Until then, check out our highlights on organizations we have given to, and donors who utilize our services.

Starting the first Muslim community foundation in the United States has proven to be an inspiring and fruitful journey. As always, we welcome any feedback, questions, or If you are interested in volunteering your skillset, drop us a line.

Organization Highlight

With Houston and surrounding communities facing the destruction of Hurricane Harvey, one of our Donor Advised Fund families was keen to provide support. They recommended that we made a donation to support their local food bank, The Houston Food Bank, from their Donor Advised Fund. The Houston Food Bank helps feed 800,000 people a year and has a long history of providing disaster relief, but Hurricane Harvey's devastating effect on Houston's communities was unprecedented. The Houston Food Bank stepped up to provide food and supplies to local residents who are struggling to rebuild their lives, and are working closely with partner agencies to make sure that families get the support they need.  We hope you take some time to learn more about their great work.

Donor Spotlight - the Haider Family

Amer, Munira, Meher, Ahmin and Belal Haider
Meet the Haider family - one of AMuslimFund's first Donor Advised Fund families!

Our family lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.  We founded the Amer and Munira Haider Charitable Fund whose mission is to uplift the human condition and dignity by empowerment through science, medicine, education and awareness.

We have intimate and heartfelt connections to non-profit work.  Our first child, Meher was born with bilateral clubfeet. Fortunately, Meher was treated soon after birth. We thought of how difficult this must be in developing countries where it is hard to find and afford treatment. Therefore we founded Pehla Qadam (“First Step”) which seeks to eliminate untreated clubfoot from Pakistan, our country of origin.

Our second major challenge came when our son, Ahmin, was born with achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism that results in limited limb growth.  Even though Ahmin lives a mentally and physically active life, he could potentially undergo many surgeries.  Seeing that to-date no pharmacological remedy exists for his rare medical condition, we also initiated a non-profit effort to raise funds for treatment of achondroplasia.

Alongside all of this, we are deeply invested in protecting the constitutional rights and civil liberties of all Americans, including American Muslims. Similarly, we are committed to supporting refugees, victims of war and providing relief from natural disaster.

Amer is co-founder of a digital health start-up, Doctella and Munira is an attorney. When not doing their day jobs, Munira trains for and runs half marathons and Amer is a triathlete.  As a family they enjoy many outdoor activities and making charitable decisions together.
