Where in the world is Jorge?
|
|
|
No that's not Jorge, but Qantas Airways recently invited a selected number of agents from around Australia to a full day show and tell and New Farm Travel was represented by Jorge.
The feature packed day held in Sydney featured many technical issues including a full inspection of the Airbus A380 at one of the largest hangar facilities in the Southern Hemisphere. During the day, American Airlines joined Qantas to showcase their new Alliance adding some entertainment by the girls of the Endeavour College, performing gymnastics in front of the 100 strong agents audience.
As a result, New Farm Travel looks forward to sharing the full benefit of a closer relationship with both Qantas and American airlines.

Coleen experiences the Bernina Express Swiss Train
|
|
Earlier this year I ticked off a bucket list trip – travelling on the Bernina Express Swiss Scenic train from Chur to Tirano.
After arriving at Zurich Airport we caught a local train to Chur, and boarded the Bernina Express Train the next morning.
This is one of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps – the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey along a UNESCO World Heritage listed route.
The train travels slowly enough to take photos and video on an iphone – the video footage I took in slow motion turned out to be amazing!
It was surreal to be so high (it is the highest railway across the Alps); and to be at the same altitude as people skiing and snowboarding, kite skiing on the frozen lakes, cross country skiers, and off piste skiers.
The train negotiates 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and viaducts, and at the highest point at 2,253 metres above sea level the train stops for 15 minutes at the small Ospizio Bernina station. This is a great photo opportunity as the tree line has been crossed, and the stunning high alpine landscape can be admired.
The train then begins its dramatic descent, offering a magnificent view of the the Palü glacier, as it runs through countless curves to gradually descend into the Poschiavo valley.
Think of all the clichés about the beauty of scenic train travel and then multiply them by 1000! You will want to travel on this train too.
Part of the fun on board this train is enjoying a mini picnic culinary experience as you admire the scenery. The Railbar served us directly to our seats with local delicacies – regional specialities of cheese, pear bread and sausage served on a beech wood plate, complete with a Swiss Victorinox army pocket knife and a half bottle of local chilled white wine!
The train operates in both directions, and takes about four hours. Chur to Tirano is the classic route, but there is a Bernina Express from Davos and St Moritz as well. In the summer, there is a connecting Bernina Express bus service to Lugano. Or, you can travel by local train to Milan.
I can’t wait for my next Swiss Scenic Train trip – this time aboard the Glacier Express train from Zermatt to St Moritz – watch this space!
A Swiss Scenic train journey is a great side trip to a European holiday, for more information on Swiss Scenic train trips contact Coleen.
