Curiously Bristol in Autumn 2017
Curiosity Connections Bristol is the network for people who want to deliver inspirational primary Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning in the greater Bristol region.
Via our website, newsletter, Facebook, Twitter and events we will highlight stories, curriculum-linked activities and toolkits which help you connect the STEM in the real world with STEM in school.

Stories from around the Network

Super Science Saturday!
St Paul’s Catholic Primary School in Yate held a Super Science Saturday event in school on 17th June.
The main objective for the event was to increase parental engagement with their children’s learning, this is why it was held on a Saturday afternoon and offered free of charge. It was wonderful to see the children’s love of science shared with their families!
Fr Jim set a challenge to transport an egg in a self-propelled vehicle and medals and prizes were available for a variety of categories. This challenge caused great excitement and competition between the families for many days leading up to the event!
All together there were 5 hour long workshops families could chose from. Emma Schierbaum from Baylabs deliver a free chemistry workshop where the children made their own lip balms. There was also a marble run challenge, Eggstranaut lander, animal encounters and Sunset in a Tube from STEM Ambassador Paul Treble from the Institute of Physics.
Families completed evaluation forms which were all extremely positive about the day and many requested that it becomes an annual event! It did take a lot of time to organise and couldn’t have been run without the goodwill from all the teachers, STEM Ambassadors, scientists and other adults who helped to run the sessions, but it was extremely successful and certainly brought families together around their child’s learning in science.

The conference is taking place at Aerospace Bristol – the brand new museum of aerospace in Filton – on Thursday 23rd November 2017.
The cost is £20 per person, and all revenue will go towards covering the cost of putting on a great conference. HOWEVER if you really would like to come and the cost is a barrier then get in touch and we will see what we can do.
