RSVP (free event): https://www.mobilize.us/hcdp/event/95043

**PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL BE MEETING AT THE ANNEX BUILDING AT BAYLAND, WHERE EARLY VOTING TAKES PLACE**

Join us for our July general meeting where Blake Ellis, Ph.D. and Senior Associate Vice President of Student Engagement at Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, will discuss the history of progressive politics in Houston. In order to know where we're going, it's important to know where we've been.

About our guest speaker:
Dr. Blake A. Ellis currently serves as Phi Theta Kappa’s Senior Associate Vice President of Student Engagement. In that role, he oversees PTK programs, supports advisors, and promotes student success. Blake earned his Ph.D. in US history from Rice University and holds master’s degrees from Baylor University and Rice University. He is a two-time recipient of National Endowment for the Humanities awards, winner of Rice University’s Stockbridge Vaughan prize, recipient of the Robert McGehee Equality Award, and a 2016 John and Suanne Roueche Professor. He has presented his research at the Southern Historical Association, the Institute for the Study of Religion, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, the League for Innovation in the Community College, and the Community College Humanities Association, among others. His work has been published in such venues as the Journal of Southern History, History News Network, and the Southwestern Historical Quarterly. He was the first editor of Civic Scholar, the country’s first journal of undergraduate research dedicated to community college students. He loves his family, travel, coffee, the New Yorker, and running.

He is a past board member for Harris County Young Democrats and the Houston GLBT Political Caucus, and a founding board member of the New Leaders Council-Houston. He currently serves as Treasurer for the Texas Equity PAC (Equality Texas).

We will also be joined by Chris Hollins, Vice-Chair of Finance for the Texas Democratic Party, who will be giving us an update on what's going on with our state party.

And of course, thank you to Nelvin Adriatico for Houston City Council District J for sponsoring the refreshments at this event. Please visit his website at https://www.adriatico4j.com
