2020 Fall WIMPS

Good Afternoon Wimps,

The good news is that hockey is still able to be played this year, however, as with most activities and sports leagues there are a number of restrictions that will be in place due to Covid-19. Since this year will have a few challenges, we are looking to gage how much interest there are in sign-ups for the 2020 - 2021 WIMPS season.

If you are interested in playing this year and willing to commit to a single night of WIMPS hockey for the Fall please let us know by emailing us at by Sunday, October.4, 2020 also, let us know which night you would prefer to play on (Monday, Tuesday or Saturday).

Here a brief list of some of changes that will be in place as of right now (Please note, these are being worked on and may ease up in the coming weeks):
. 4 on 4 only.
. Limit of 8 players and 1 goalie per team.
. Social Distancing must take place on the benches.
. No Physical Contact

There are also the following restriction in place with each of the Yellowknife rinks:
. Player/team lists must be provided to the City/Facility staff in advance of each ice session. Any individual not on the list will be turned away.
. Any player arriving after the 15 minute window for their designated ice time will be denied access to the facility.
. All players must arrive dressed to play, excluding skates, helmets and gloves. Any player arriving not dressed in gear will be denied access to the facility. There will be minor allowances made for goalies given their gear requirements are different.
. No sharing of water bottles and no water will be available at the arena.
. All players are required to bring their skates. helmet and gloves in a small bag that can be used to carry their boots, coat, car keys, etc to the bench.  There will be no access to dressing rooms
. At the conclusion of the ice session, players will have 15 minutes to remove their skates, helmet and gloves and depart the facility.
. The length of the skates will be 60 minutes. This will provide facility staff time to clean the benches and player seating areas in advance of the next user group.

At this point we are still considering whether to proceed (Dependent on interest) and working on the logistics (Cost, # of regulars, etc.). Please be aware this is a dynamic situation so the current restrictions may change as the year progresses.  If you have any questions or feedback please let us know.

Stay tuned for further updates.
