Community Demands Meeting with Sen. Feinstein
Monday, December 20, 10:00 a.m.
Senator Feinstein's Office
1 Post St., #2450, San Francisco
Please join Faith in Action Bay Area and other partner organizations as we demand a meeting with Sen. Feinstein and urge her to support the inclusion of immigration relief in the Build Back Better Act. We will ask for an explanation for why the Senator has not answered more than 50 requests via phone and emails for a meeting with her.
The last immigration reform was in 1986, more than 30 years ago. Immigrants have been here for decades without being able to access resources, support, or insurance. Many in the community are living in fear, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic because an indefinitely large number have lost their jobs and that has complicated an already very difficult situation. Democrats have promised to pass a pathway to citizenship this year. Our community cannot wait any longer. This is a critical moment as the progress of the immigration provisions within the Build Back Better bill are at once again at risk with the most recent advisory opinion from the unelected Senate parliamentarian.
The demands are for Senator Feinstein to meet personally or virtually with the community of immigrants and declare publicly her support for immigration relief.
“We need Democrats like Sen. Feinstein to keep their promise of immigration relief for millions. For too long Democrats have sought the Latino vote with a promise of immigration reform and we have suffered from inaction for too long. We are demanding this relief because our community desperately needs it and has earned it. So many families are unable to celebrate or rest or visit family during this season because there is no such relief. We all contribute and are essential to this country, and we all deserve this opportunity for permanent legalization, ”says community activist Gloria Alvarez with the PASOS committee of Sacred Heart Community Service.
