As you may know, Faith in Action leaders in San Francisco helped craft a measure on this fall's ballot and have spent the entire year gathering signatures and leading a people-powered campaign to reach tens of thousands of voters. Please join us on Wednesday, November 9th, from 5:00-6:30 pm, at St. John the Evangelist to reflect and celebrate!
This ballot campaign is the latest step in an years-long effort by immigrant elders in Faith in Action Bay Area to secure housing subsidies for low-income seniors to allow them to age with dignity in our City of St. Francis. While thousands of seniors and families live in daily fear of homelessness, there are over 60,000 empty homes in San Francisco, many being used as investment properties. Faith in Action leaders worked with a city supervisor to craft Proposition M (the Empty Homes Tax) as a fair tax on vacant housing units, targeted toward corporate investors. It will bring in tens of millions annually, half of which will be used for the essential subsidies we know can keep low-income seniors and families in their homes.
