Board of Supervisors Meeting
Tuesday, June 8, 9 a.m.

(Please note: we are Item 11 on the agenda, so we'll likely be making comments sometime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.)
There are 23 days until we hit the Eviction Cliff on June 30, when the state eviction moratorium is set to expire.

On Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, the Supervisors will vote on a resolution that a) encourages the state to extend the eviction moratorium; and b) encourages people who hold or owe rent debt to apply to the state rent relief program.

While this resolution is an important first step, it's not enough to keep thousands of San Mateo County families safe from the threat of eviction on July 1.

We need the Board of Supervisors to make a commitment to prepare a County eviction moratorium in case the state fails to act. At Tuesday's meeting, we'll be asking the Supervisors to:
  1. Direct county staff to prepare a county eviction moratorium that lasts until unemployment numbers return to pre-pandemic levels and all of the first round of ERAP money has been distributed.
  2. Improve the distribution of all the state rent relief money through increased county funding, outreach, and expansion of efforts to help tenants and landlords apply.
Can't make the meeting on Tuesday?

The Board of Supervisors is hosting a "Re-opening Celebration" to celebrate the end of the pandemic. We are unable to celebrate when our most vulnerable residents continue to live under the threat of eviction. For them, the pandemic is far from over. Join us as we call upon the Supervisors to take greater action to protect 11,000 families from homelessness. We'll be sending out more information on this action shortly.

What action can you take to support our vulnerable neighbors in this time of uncertainty? Please reach out to Abby (abby@faithinactionba.org) or Nani (nani@faithinactionba.org) with questions. We are always happy to chat over the phone or correspond via email.
