A Message from the Executive Director
What is the Best Way to Donate to The Emergency Assistance Center?
I am so grateful for all of you who have donated in the past or who are thinking of donating for the first time!  We are 100% community supported and receive no government grants. Your donations are truly needed to help the 900+ clients that we serve each month on average. Many people ask us what The Emergency Assistance Center (TEAC) needs and how they can donate. There are four areas where we could use your help:

FOOD: Our website and weekly posts on our Facebook page @teacenter show the current “most needed items.”  It is safe to say that we will always need cereal, canned fruit, canned carrots, canned spinach, rice or pasta pouches, and spaghetti sauce.
CLOTHING: Due to limited space, we accept Spring and lightweight clothing on May 1st. Heavier items and winter coats are accepted beginning on Sept. 1st. We need more pre-teen and teen sizes. If there are specific clothing items needed, we will post it on our TEAC Facebook page @teacenter.
HYGIENE ITEMS: Personal care items such as deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash  are always appreciated. In addition, toilet paper, facial tissues, paper towels, laundry detergent and dish soap are needed. The most needed hygiene items can also be found on the TEAC website. Food stamps (now called SNAP) can not be used to purchase hygiene items.
FINANCES: Monetary donations are needed for many things. We buy hundreds of pounds of frozen meat weekly from the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank. We also purchase hygiene items and additional food as needed.  Checks can be made out to TEAC and mailed to 9199 Olde 8 Road, Suite C, Northfield, OH 44067. You may also bring your donation to the Center directly. We would love to give you a tour!  Another option is to donate on-line through our website “Donate” button which is attached to PayPal.
Note: Traditional IRA owners 70½ and older have the ability to transfer funds tax free from their IRA to a qualified charity as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). A QCD lowers taxable income and can also satisfy the need for a minimum distribution. See your tax consultant for details.

Please remember that WE DO NOT solicit donations by telephone and we never ask people to tape their donations to their front door for pickup. If someone calls and says they are with The Emergency Assistance Center, it is NOT us.  Call your local police department and report it.

Can Children & Teens Volunteer at TEAC?
YES! Teens 16 & older may volunteer at the center unescorted. Younger teens and children must be accompanied by an adult to volunteer here, but there are many other ways that they can give their time. Here are examples:
  1. Ask their friends to bring donations of non-perishable food, toothpaste and toothbrushes, or new underwear and socks to their birthday party.
  2. During the summer, have a lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to TEAC.
  3. In November, help their parents shop for toys for our Christmas Lane program.
Please call us at 330-467-7945 to discuss volunteering or other ideas for donation drives.

Bob Evans in Macedonia is a long-term partner of TEAC. We pick up donations of
chicken, biscuits, and pastries every week. We are so grateful for their support!

We operate out of one center in Northfield to serve our clients who live in Northfield, Sagamore Hills, Macedonia, Twinsburg, Reminderville, Hudson,
Boston Heights, Peninsula, and Richfield.

We are proud to be completely community funded and to report that approximately 90% of donations are utilized to aid our clients. We are the ONLY food pantry in Summit County that is a BBB Accredited Charity by having met all 20 standards of the BBB Charity Program. We have also achieved the GuideStar Platinum level, their highest level of recognition.
