Gratitude is when memory is stored in the heart and not in the mind. -Lionel Hampton
Very few of the men whose names have become great in the early pioneering of jazz and of swing were trained in music at all. They were born musicians: they felt their music and played by ear and memory. That was the way it was with the great Dixieland Five. Louis Armstrong

On Sat. April 13th, we are so happy to welcome Jason "Malletman" Taylor to the Point for 2 exclusive shows - one from 7:45pm to 9:30pm and the other from 10pm to 11:45pm.  Tickets to this special event are $25 per person.  Get your tickets online HERE, or drop into the club to purchase your tickets in advance.
An excerpt from Jason's website:
"Taylor grew up in Brooklyn, NY listening to Lionel Hampton’s music. His mother, who was a fan of Hampton’s and would go see him perform at the Apollo Theater, introduced her son to the jazz legend’s work. Taylor started out playing the drums when he was 12 years old. He then went on to play the xylophone before falling in love with the vibraphone, which he describes as being “the most beautiful sounding instrument.” He became dedicated to mastering the “vibes” just like Hampton, who was so impressed during his first meeting with Taylor in 1981, that he took in the young “Malletman” as his protégé and became his mentor. In addition to touring the U.S. and Europe with Hampton and his 18-piece band, Taylor also lived with him and received the kind of personal training and experience that can only be described as “priceless.” It was during that time when Taylor also formed Mallet Records, a record company dedicated to its mission of “Keeping Real Music Alive.”  Continue reading HERE.

Saxophonist Greg Dudzienski
Visits from Chicago

We are so pleased to welcome Greg Dudzienski back to the Point on Friday, April 26th!  His last visit was a smash hit and now is your chance to come see him play again in our little listening room.

Here is more Info about him from his website:
" Saxophonist and composer Gregory Dudzienski lives a life of constant motion.  After years of travel, he has become a member of Chicago’s strong community of musicians and improvisers.  His original music has been featured on the Anagram Series at The Elastic Arts Foundation, the Actual Jazz Series at Cafe Mustache, and the Chicago Jazz Composers Collective At The Green Mill as well as the Is This Jazz Series at AS200 in Providence, Rhode Island, the International Saxophone Symposium in Fairfax, Virginia, and the Salerno Jazz Festival in Salerno Italy.  Dudzienski was inspired during his youth by the jazz of the late 1950s and 1960s and has since then continued to be influenced by the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic language of that era.  Seeking new ways to navigate the spirit of the mid-century jazz language, his music results in a modern aesthetic with strong roots in primary sources."
