Happy Spring Equinox from The Point!

(Looking forward to the flowers and some warmer weather! :)

The Society Jazz Orchestra's
8 - Piece Big Band is Back
Playing The Late Ed Moss's Music
My father and founder of The Point, Ed Moss, left an enormous repertoire of lovely, and technically complicated, music behind when he exited this realm over a year ago. Many of the musicians in his Society Jazz Orchestra miss playing his music and many more people miss hearing it. So, after much talking and planning, with great thanks to Eric Lechliter and Pat Kelly, we will be hosting the first Tuesday Night SJO performance since Ed's (and Tenor Sax player, Arthur Quitman's) passing in 2016 -2017.  Pat is the perfect person to play these tunes as he has the sensitivity and understanding of Ed's music that few, if any, piano players have. Many musicians have played in the SJO over the years. The line-up for this show is primarily made up of those musicians that played with Ed in his last years of life. Besides Pat on Piano, we have Lou Lausche on Bass, Todd Remmy on Drums, Eric Lechliter on Trumpet, Dominic Marino on Trombone, Phil Hilger on Alto Sax, Josh Kline on Tenor Sax, and Ben Walkenhauer on Baritone Sax.  Because it is an 8-piece big band with so many musicians, the cover for this event is $10. Munchies are included in the cover price. Please come join us for this lovely memorial band playing the wonderful tunes of the late Ed Moss on Tuesday, March 20th, from 8:30pm to 11:30pm. This also happens to be my mother, Caryn's, birthday and the spring equinox, so many reasons to celebrate and enjoy this awesome musical spectacle!   Much Love!  -Zarleen

Featuring Happy Hour Drink Discounts
on Thursdays Only from 7pm - 9pm
I am happy to report that, recently, our little jazz club is becoming more of a downtown destination on the weekends.  Unfortunately, Thursdays are a bit quieter.  However, we have really great musicians playing some fantastic music on Thursdays, with the likes of John Zappa on trumpet with Brad Meyers on Guitar and Phil Burkhead on Piano (this weekend), or the acoustically delicious Double Jazz Guitar Experience of Carlos Vargas-Ortiz and Brandon Scott Coleman(next weekend), and many others.  So we got to thinking - what sort of things might entice our Queen City Jazz lovers to come hang out with us on a Thursday evening?  Hence, we decided to offer a Thursday Happy Hour with discounted drinks from 7pm to 9pm as a little incentive to come and show our wonderful musicians some love and support.  So please come try a signature drink, one of our European wines, or a yummy beer at Happy Hour prices and settle in for an evening of exceptional musicianship.

New Signature Drink - The Red Garland
We have a new drink on our specials board, named for the great piano player, Red Garland.  Served up with chilled elegance, the Red Garland is crafted from Titos vodka, our hand-made Pomegranate Cordial, a splash of orange liquor and a bit of lime juice,  Try our new Pomegranate Martini the next time you stop in to hear some smokin' Jazz!  And if you haven't heard Red Garland, look him up, he is worth checking out.

Special Events at The Point
Our Special Valentine's Day Dinner Party at The Point was a great success!  We want to thank all those who attended, helping to make it such a wonderful and memorable experience.  Please stay tuned for more Jazz Dinner Parties at The Point coming soon, along with a special Jazz and Wine Tasting event in the spring.
March Music Highlights

We have some great entertainment this month at the Point.  This weekend we welcome back Emily Jordan on vocals with Jordan Pollard on Piano and Judy Tsai on Bass.  Many missed their debut performance due to the torrential rains a couple of weeks ago.  Now, you have the chance to experience Emily's lovely, step-out-of-time, contralto, on Saturday, March 10, from 9pm-12:30am.

On Friday, March 16th, Cleveland Dodds lights up the Point on Piano with the mesmerizing Josh Strange on Vibes.  Cleveland uses all that is available to carry you through the melody with great humor and feeling. This trio is so much fun!  If you want to go to a show that will keep you happily engaged from tune to tune, this is where you will want to be.  Not missing this is the best thing you'll do all week!

The weekend of March 22nd to the 24th is sure to be quite a lot of fun with great energy from our newest crop of seriously talented young local jazz musicians.  All groups feature their takes on the well-loved standards, but each band is also showcasing and intermingling some of their original jazz tunes for your enjoyment.  On Thursday, March 22nd, The Daybreak Trio features Andrew Lin on Sax, Charlie Shefft on Drums, and Justin Dawson on Bass.  On Friday, March 23rd, On A Limb is back at The Point with Andrew Haug on Piano, Charlie Shefft on Drums, and Noah Simionides on Bass.  And on Saturday, March 24th, The Point welcomes drummer and composer Ian Mortenson, from Dayton, with his trio.  Come see what the newest generation of Jazzers have to offer this weekend at The Point.
