We're looking forward to seeing a bunch of y'all at our event after work today at Olbrich Gardens! WiT organizer Hilary will be there in her Women in Tech t-shirt, holding down a few tables for everyone. Let's enjoy one of the first sunny days in a while!

Next week, we're co-hosting a hybrid event with Codecinella about architecture, and then we're checking out the newest season of Concerts on the Square at the end of the month.

🍻 SOCIAL: Happy Hour for New and New-ish Members!

When: TODAY, Thursday, June 9th from 5:30 pm to 7:30pm
Where: In-person at The Biergarten at Olbrich Park, 3527 Atwood Ave · Madison, WI

We pride ourselves on doing our best to make Madison Women in Tech a welcoming, inclusive community.

That being said, we know it can be intimidating to show up to an event when you don't know anyone!

To help mitigate that, we're having one of our semi-annual social events just for people who haven't attended a Women in Tech meetup yet, or haven't attended one in the last six months. First-timers can all be new together 😊

👩‍💻 HYBRID: "What is Architecture? Why does Architecture matter?" with Codecinella

When: Wednesday, June 22nd from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm
Where: In-person at Central Madison Public Library, 201 W Mifflin St · Madison, WI AND online via Zoom

NOTE: This event will be both in-person AND online via zoom, to support the convenience and comfort of all of our members. In-person folks are welcome to mask or not mask as they prefer.

Concerts on the Square is back on the square!

Join us for the first session of the season, "Motown with Spectrum". We'll set out blankets ahead of time to secure seating; just bring yourself, a snack, a drink (alcoholic is allowed, for those so inclined), and your friends / partners / coworkers / children!

DevFest WI call for speakers now open!

Madison Women in Tech organizers Hilary and Pao are helping organize DevFest, as are multiple other Madison Women in Tech members. 

We want YOU to speak at DevFest WI!

DevFest WI is a conference for all technologists, organized by GDG Madison and volunteers from the Madison tech community. It will take place on August 18th, 2022 at the Memorial Union in Madison, WI.

Our conference theme is inclusivity: how to create development teams and software products that are welcoming to everyone. 

We are seeking presentations on a broad range of topics related to inclusivity, including, but not limited to: online privacy and security, accessibility, localization, web performance, diversifying teams, tech interviews, empathetic code review, mentoring and teaching, cross-cultural design, AI and ML, neurodiversity, tech talks / public speaking, and more!

Apply for YWeb Career Academy at the YWCA

YWeb Career Academy (YWeb) is an employment service program that trains women and people of color to become web developers/designers.

The goal of the YWeb Career Academy is to increase diversity in this area of employment. Upon completion of the course, students will have opportunities to pursue full-time permanent employment, a paid internship, or a freelance career.

The three-month program covers technical skills such as design, HTML, CSS, and Javascript and employability skills such as project management, interview practice, and resume writing. Traditionally, women and people of color are underrepresented in the technology field.

Basic Skills Cohort 2 starts on June 20, 2022.
