Superclusters announced  The recent superclusters announcement spells great opportunities for Canada's research, development and commercialization (RD&C) ecosystem - and is especially good for natural products. NPC congratulates our node partners, PEI BioAlliance and AgWestBio (AWB) for their roles in two of the successful announcements on oceans and proteins. We look forward to continuing our conversation with these groups to help them fulfill their mandate.

NPC Invests in Island Water Technologies In case you missed it, we also announced our investment in a PEI-based wastewater treatment company, Island Water Technologies. Their innovative technology incorporates microbes to provide highly sensitive monitoring of wastewater treatment facilities. We are incredibly proud to be involved in this important technology, and can't wait to see them grow.  READ MORE >>

General Mills invests $8B in natural pet food. People LOVE their pets, so it's no surprise that the trend for healthy, all-natural, clean label ingredients in human food is becoming just as prevalent in pet food. Last week, General Mills got into the pet food business with the purchase of Blue Buffalo, which is known for their  whole food-filled products. READ MORE >>

Pond Goes Public Markham Ontario's Pond Technologies, known for their innovative algae growing platform, has gone public to the tune of $8.7M. The platform can grow algae for nutraceutical superfoods as well as fertilizers and animal feeds.  READ MORE >>

Pitch Opportunities Connecting promising companies with investors is a key component of a healthy commercialization ecosystem. Investors get deal flow, and companies get access to capital. Here's a quick round-up of pitch events that align with natural product companies in the next few months. 
  • DSM 2018 Health and Human Nutrition Innovation Conference (San Francisco, April 15-17): DSM is seeking entries for innovative technologies and products in a range of human health and nutrition areas. Learn more.
  • Agri-Tech Venture Forum (Toronto, May 10): This event has a heavy focus on agriculture and agri-tech so natural pesticides, feeds and other ag/veterinary solutions fit the mandate. Learn more.
  • FoodBytes (Montreal, May 15-16): Dubbed a 'next-generation pitch competition meets networking event' this Rabobank brainchild is focused on the future of food and agriculture. Learn more.
  • Nutrition Capital Network - Natural Products Canada Investor Meeting (Toronto, June 27-28): Focused on the human health and wellness space, we are very proud to present this invite-only gathering. It features 20 high-potential companies pitching to carefully selected Canadian and international investors, including those from titans of the natural product industry such as Nature's Way, Nestle and Campbell's.
