Transition Cafe – The Circular Economy

A presentation by Rebecca Haynes-McCoy, Development Officer for Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority, with a colleague

Topics covered will include:-

  • What Is The Circular Economy
  • A Beginners Introduction
  • How Can It Help Climate Change

There will also be a short workshop to show how the three main principles of circular economy can be applied to many areas of life (for up to 30 people).

Liverpool Circular Economy Club will be giving 6 of these presentations around Liverpool this year, culminating in a big event.

There is funding for Circular Economy projects in Merseyside. There's £165,000 available and the closing date is towards the end of March.

The meeting is on Wednesday 11th March at the Quaker Meeting House, School Lane from 6.30 to 8.30

Transition will provide refreshments, soup and desserts at 6.30, and the presentation will start at 7pm – please bring a vegetarian dish to share if you are able to.

*** we have supplies of “Who Gives a Crap” recycled toilet paper for sale at the meeting

Report on Transition Cafe - February 12th. We showed the hour-long TED talk, "Countdown 10.10.2020", in which Cristiana Figueres, one of the architects of the 2015 Paris Agreement, launches a worldwide campaign aiming to unite and inspire every global citizen, employer, company and governing authority in a last chance attempt to hold Climate Heating to 1.5 degrees. Some big players e.g. TED,  YouTube and the manager of the largest Pension Fund in Japan are on board with this initiative which will culminate in various worldwide actions on October 10th this year (10-10-2020). One interesting feature is the prospect that this initiative is developing tools which may help us influence and join with Local Authorities to achieve meaningful change in Liverpool City Region.
If you missed this event you can watch the 65min talk on YouTube.
You can also get involved on the Countdown website

About Transition Liverpool
The main Transition Liverpool event is the monthly “Transition Café” which is on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Every October we put on a full-day Symposium. Our main concerns are to help create a “soft-landing” rather than a crash as fuel supplies fall and demand rises, and also as the effects of climate change increase. Transition is a development model for “advanced” societies to help us create better and more fulfilled lives for all, while using less resources.
We are part of the Transition Network, and Transition Town West Kirby are also very active. Our local Liverpool website is here, and our Facebook page is here.
Some of the main Transition publications are available online for free download - the original Transition Handbook, and the more recent Essential Guide to doing Transition .
