Code Lavender

In the March 2018 issue of The Journal of Family Practice, an article, Code Lavender: Transforming the Human Experience outlines a new practice happening in a Cleveland Clinic.  Code Lavender is called when a health care worker in need to spiritual or emotional support, similar to when a Code Blue is called for medical emergencies.  The team provides Reiki, massage, heathy snacks and water within 30 minutes.  Lavender armbands are also given to remind the individual to relax for the rest of the day.   Way to go Cleveland!

How has your Reiki self practice benefited your life?  In what ways do you currently use Reiki that may be helpful to share with others?  Do you have a Reiki brag? We want to know!  Please consider submitting your article of about 600 words to Hilary or let us know a little about you for our Member Spotlight!  If your article is chosen, you will receive a free VRA T-shirt!

We would like to honor a beloved VRA member, Jayne Angela Rivera, who passed away last month after a struggle with cancer. She will be missed and yet her beauty and warmth will always be remembered!  Her complete obituary here.

To Those I Love

When I am gone, release me, let me go-
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears.
Be thankful for our beautiful years.

I gave to you my love.  You can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness…
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it’s time I traveled alone.

So, grieve for a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a time that we must part,
So, bless the memories within your heart.

I won’t be far away, for life goes on.
So, if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear
All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone
I will greet you with a smile and say---

“Welcome Home!”

From the President

The word is out my friends. Reiki is becoming more and more visible throughout Vermont and beyond; our membership is growing and the work of the VRA is being recognized in new and vital ways. We are at an exciting and critical point in our growth and I want to invite YOU to consider if NOW is the time to say YES to a leadership opportunity.
We currently have three openings on the Board of Directors and are looking for several Regional Coordinators. Check in with your heart, bring this question to your Reiki practice. And give me a call or shoot me an email if you want to talk!

Sincerely,
Gerette

Member Spotlight

This month we would like to honor Dr. Ellen Albertson of Chittenden County.  I’m a third degree Reiki Master. My degree didn’t come from a college or university. It arrived via Unicorn, Unicorn Books that is, a sage scented store housed in a lilac colored Victorian that sat along a stretch of Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington, Massachusetts. In the 90s Unicorn was my favorite place to relax, contemplate and grow my spirit. I received my Reiki One and Two Degrees on the third floor of Unicorn from Libby Barnet and Maggie Chambers, a pair of Reiki Masters who have trained thousands in this ancient, gentle, Tibetan sutras based, hands on healing system.
Reiki has become a consistent tool in my professional practice and personal life. I use Reiki with my coaching clients, friends, hospice patients and family members to help them manifest desires, transform, resolve old negative patterns, defeat addictions and feel more capable of dealing with issues in their daily lives.  Read more about Dr. Ellen
