Studies have shown that your attitude is the most important factor determining how well you will do at work. Skills can be taught, but it is impossible for anyone but yourself to change your attitude.
If you come into the room expecting the worst, guess what, that is exactly what will happen!
But how can we improve our attitude? Here are three tried and tested ways:
- Get rest. It is so much easier to have a good attitude, if you have the reserves. Make sure you get enough sleep. Have regular breaks during the day, especially if you spend your days in cyberspace. Do not have back-to-back meetings; make sure there is at least a 10-minute break between meetings.
- Work off your stress. It may be a walk. It may be a run. It may be a dog that will get you out. Whatever it takes to get rid of it, do it daily and have a strategy to manage your stress.
- Get your mind to a calm, open state. Learn square breathing. Practice meditation. Pray. Whatever works for you to get you to a place where your mind is calm and open to possibilities. Set aside a few minutes before every meeting starts, to get to this state.
When you regularly follow these three simple, but powerful strategies, you will be ready to bring a great attitude wherever you go! Very soon you will be the one bringing sunshine and joy into any room you enter!
