The first action is to focus on just what is next. The next step. The next turn in the road. Don’t think too much, just do what is needed to complete what is right in front of you. So, today, just focus on that next task, that next opportunity, whatever is next in your path. And do it the best you can.
The second action is to keep feeding yourself. You may not feel thirsty in the race, but you need to keep your hydration up. You may not feel like it, but you need to take in energy all the time to reach the end. Today, even though you may feel like playing it safe, remember to get good nutrition, exercise, play, have fun, attack the next problem, play big and above all feed your intellect and soul. We all need to carry on with our lives.
The third action is to focus on the end. Have a vision of what it will be like when you reach the goal. The people cheering. The celebration. The relief. It will help carry you through the gruel of the race. Think and dream today about what you are going to do when we can again travel, when we can hug loved ones. Who will you go visit first? What will you do? Plan and dream today.
The fourth action, the one I added, the real joy bringer, is to help the people around you. How can you support them? In the marathon I’ve seen that if you encourage those in the race with you, you stop thinking of your own struggles and pains. Like in the marathon, everyone today is taking strain, so will be grumpier than normal. Expect it. Move on. Focus on yourself and what you can do.
Who can you support today? Who can you encourage? Where can you bring some hope?
By doing so, you will find your day a bit brighter. Before long, you will feel the joy of a race well run.
