I recently attended a virtual session with Sean Bacon. He is an amazing speaker, presenter and facilitator. An ex-military man, he uses his past experiences to be incredibly motivational. He asked the question, “What makes you uncommon?”
Uncommon. Not unique. We all are unique. Uncommon. What makes you uncommon?
It made me think. Perhaps we can take it one step further and ask not only what makes us uncommon, but also what gift can we bring to the world from that place of being uncommon. In business we speak about the company’s sweet spot, when we implement EOS®. Here we search for three things that, although each individually may not be so unique, the combination thereof represents something that only that company can do. That is then called the sweet spot – a place where the business can make a real contribution. A place of joy.
For me, I think three things make me uncommon. Firstly I am a joy farmer. I work to make it possible for people to plant joy seeds every day. I help create the space in which they can do this. Then, I also have a military background. Discipline and conflict resolution come naturally to me. Lastly, I am often told that I am a “nice” person, sometimes they say “too nice.” I don’t mind. I actually like it when people say that to me. So there you have it. A nice joy farmer that likes conflict and discipline. Ha! Makes for interesting workshops and coaching sessions!
What makes you uncommon? When you identify that, and perhaps have a combination of things like my three, can you imagine what will be possible? You will be able to bring an awesome gift to the world! What will that gift be?
