JESUS MAFA. Easter - Christ appears to Mary, from Art in the Christian Tradition,

John 20:1-18 - Impossible hope

In the cover of darkness,
Mary comes to the Lord.
She sees the stone rolled away.
she runs.

Mary finds
the one whom Jesus loved,
the one who denied him;
they run to the tomb,
and stop.

They see folded linen.
They believe,
and they do not understand.

The disciples return to their homes,
and Mary stays,

Angels greet her,
'why are you weeping?'
"Because they have taken away my Lord,
and I cannot find him."

This man - who could it be
but the gardener -
also questions her:
'why are you weeping?'
"Please, if you have taken him away,
let me know where."

She hears her name.
He has found her.

The impossible has happened,
Christ is risen!
And all I hear is
'do not touch.'

What does it looks like to celebrate the resurrection in this season when we continue to be unable to touch each other? When we are separated from the God-made-flesh-ness of each other, it can be hard to see Jesus.

This year we once again need the profound hope given in the resurrection: that the One who can conquer death can also conquer disease and injustice.

This week at Wine Before Breakfast... After Dinner... we will be assured again of the hope of the Resurrection for this season.

Nico Foslett will read our scripture,
Finn Keesmaat-Walsh will read the land acknowledgment,
Andrew Tebbutt has crafted our prayers,
Chris Clark is acting as voice of the people,
Deb Whalen-Blaize has chosen our music for the evening, and
Aileen Verdun will bring us a word from John 20:1-18.

I hope to see you Tuesday evening at 7:22pm.

In Christ,
Brenda Kronemeijer-Heyink
