My name is Alex Acuyo and I was born in a town called Alicante in Southern Spain. By my 4th birthday, my family had moved to the UK where I was brought up.
Language and culture has always been intriguing to me, since I grew up speaking English as my mother tongue, while at the same time communicating in Spanish with my family. I therefore grew up in an environment where switching from my L1 (English) and L2 (Spanish) was an everyday occurrence.
My interest in Teaching English as a Foreign Language started after completing my BA in International Communications at the University of Nottingham, at which point I decided to go straight into a CELTA course in London. From there, I spent a year finding my roots while teaching at an English academy in Spain. After this, I decided to quench my thirst for adventure by teaching for International House in Kazakhstan for 2 years. During my time in Kazakhstan, I did a great deal of professional development, including the DELTA, IELTS examiner training and academic management. I even got married!
I then moved to Qatar with my wife to work for the British Council while completing an MA in TESOL & Applied Linguistics. I finally moved to the Qatar Aeronautical College, where I have been happily teaching future Qatar Airways' pilots and engineers for the last couple of years.
