FRIDAY NIGHTS @ BLUE!
Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) and Blue Mountain Resorts (BMR) are thrilled to announce a new partnership to promote ski cross development in Ontario. For the first time ever, AOA is working alongside Blue Mountain for nine consecutive Friday nights, January 17th through to March 13th. The program, entitled “Nights At Blue”, will be open to U12+ registered AOA athletes and all registered AOA coaches. Training will run on ‘L-Hill’ which will be transitioned into various SX training sections.
AOA Competition Director, Robyn Skinner comments, “We are super excited to be working with Blue Mountain, one of the largest public ski resorts in the province, to elevate the discipline of ski cross. This program will allow kids to test their skills in a relatively unstructured, fun environment with friends from different clubs.
Athletically, the training will allow skiers to work on tucking, gliding, long impulse, patience, timing, tactics, line interpretation, air and more! For coaches, there is also a great learning opportunity to take part in mock SX races as they learn to get comfortable with the format and pacing of a real event. AOA is also working on running an SX Intro to Coaching On-Snow Module to identified sessions to train more coaches in this growing, dynamic discipline of Ski Cross.”
Athletes in the U12 category must be accompanied by a coach but for those in U14 and older they may register without a coach representative. Each night is only $20 plus your lift ticket. If considering the full 9-week program members are encouraged to purchase the Blue Mountain 5×7 pass which is being offered at the early bird rate with proof of AOA membership. Click here to complete your application and remember to present your AOA membership receipt at Blue Mountain Guest Services to purchase at this special rate.

How do we as coaches get our athletes to…
- Be in a strong stance at the start of the turn?
- Start to bend the skis?
- Have upper body discipline throughout the turn?
- Not get pushed onto their heels at the end of the turn?
- Have their body moving to the next turn to pick up a clean edge?
There’s a lot going on in a 2second GS turn...

GOAL SETTING FOR 2020
Now is the time to set SMART Goals for 2020
|
|
|
In the past SXS Fitness owner, Stefan Overgaard has written about SMART goals as they relate to the semi-annual SOD Fitness Testing. The premise of Stefan's blog is SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) which are widely used in work and sport. Read his September blog here> AOA staff also follow PHD sport psychologist, Dr Jim Taylor, and suggest ski coaches read this blog about Micros and Macros goals.
Now if you don't believe Goal Setting is important you should read this well-known study by Harvard about its business school.
Regardless of your role at AOA, we invite everyone to take the first step and write down your goals. Often that is the hardest part and hopefully, it will pave the way to a happy and successful 2020!
