mango solar wins 1st prize of the Gexsi Impact Challenge 2020

We are proud to present the winner of the 2,000€ Impact Challenge Award: mango solar. Solar lamps made in Africa - robust, fair and sustainable. The start-up founded by three students of the University of Applied Sciences in Neu-Ulm convinced the jury by using a cloud-based technology to empower local distributors to reach out to further inaccessible areas across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Gexsi Social Pitch at the SensAbility Impact Summit could not take place. We are very happy that we could now ran it digitally. 

The winning project
 
University start-up supplies Africa with clean energy

The startup mango solar brings autonomous solar energy to African households far away from the power grids. Expensive, dangerous and toxic fossil energy sources such as kerosene lamps are being replaced by affordable, safe and clean solar home systems. These are controlled by cloud-based technology and paid for via mobile phone.

The Community Award goes to GROME and Pompei Project


The 1,000€ Community Award is shared by the start-up GROME, which connects employee engagement with urban gardening initiatives, and the sustainable textile label Pompei Project. Both young startups develop solutions for highly relevant topics. Pompei Project focuses on reducing plastic waste in the oceans and creating a fair and sustainable fashion industry. GROME creates awareness for local, healthy and fresh food for people who have not yet been involved in urban gardening. 

The Runner Up Award goes to Moufense. The Enactus project, led by students from Mannheim, takes a new pathway to mainstream malaria protection: Packaged as an attractive body lotion, Moufense makes malaria protection popular among the rural population of Togo. Moufense will be presented, promoted and financially supported via our online search engine Gexsi within the next 12 months.
