The Year of Accountability
Photo by Marcia Martin. Taken December 19, 2016, while Colorado's Electors met inside to cast Colorado's electoral votes for Hillary Clinton and activists stood vigil on the Capitol Steps in freezing weather and deep snow. Note the scaffolding. Like this historic edifice, Democracy requires maintenance.

NPR's 1A Comes to Greeley

Colorado Public Radio kicked off the new year with a whole basketful of new shows. One of the best is 1A. The name is short - very short - for First Amendment. And in America, still, the First Amendment means free speech.

1A is the product of a two-year collaborative project to " incorporate more local and regional viewpoints into the national conversation." Next week, the conversation comes to CD4 in an episode titled "The Fight over Oil and Gas."

You can be part of the conversation by joining the studio audience this Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. Arrive early to be sure of getting a seat!

The event will be held at:

University of Northern Colorado University Center
2101 10th Ave. in Greeley

Come ready to share your stories and ask your questions! This is Oil and Gas's year of accountability in Colorado. Getting the word out on a national platform like 1A is a good start.

After two full years, Longmont still Leads with Love, every Saturday at 1pm at the Plaza at 6th and Main. This week's theme:

Capitol Letters
Colorado Democrats, you worked for it and you got it. Democrats have the governing trifecta in Colorado: A majority in the State House, a majority in the State Senate, and Jared Polis in the Governor's Mansion. This year, some work will get done in the State Legislature.

WTF is tracking activity at the Capitol and publishing its take on the wider implications of it all during the 2019 Legislative Session, which began in January and lasts through May 3.

Capitol Letters is a bi-weekly opinion column which is published first in The Longmont Observer, and reposted here in the Weathervane. Both news sources are licensed under the Creative Commons, so it's all on the up-and-up. We hope you enjoy them. Here's what's happened so far:

Update: SB19-042 has passed both the Senate and the House and awaits the Governor's signature. He has indicated that he will sign.
