REMINDER: Nov. 29 and 30 - Community Meetings about Proposed Sewer Rate Restructuring and Increases

San Mateo residents are invited to attend either of two community meetings to learn about the Clean Water Program being implemented by the City of San Mateo Public Works Department.

These meetings will provide information about the multi-year capital improvement program that will upgrade our sanitary sewer system and improve the wastewater treatment plant to prevent pollution, comply with regulations, improve service, and protect public health and the environment.

The meetings will also provide information about proposed sewer rate restructuring and increases that are necessary to help fund these vital improvements.

The same information will be presented at both meetings. For more information, visit www.CleanWaterProgramSanMateo.org, or call 650.727.6870.

Dale Avenue Wet Well Rehabilitation Nearing Completion

The Dale Avenue Pump Station is a series of wet wells and underground tank that collect wastewater from gravity-flow sewer pipes and discharge it to a downstream pipe. Although it has been maintained and serviced regularly over its 30-plus years in operation since its last major upgrade, many of its components had reached the end of their useful service life, requiring rehabilitation to ensure continued safe and efficient operation and maintenance.

Construction began in May 2017, and involved revitalizing the pump station wet well to a state of good repair--including repairing concrete, relining wet wells and a control structure, and replacing worn metal equipment and fittings, slide gates, conduits, ducting, pipes, railings, and access components. This work was vital to improving maintenance access and safety and restoring operational flexibility. The majority of the work has been completed. The last rehabilitation efforts of the project involve replacement of hatches over the wet well, final quality checks, cleanup, and demobilization. This work is expected to be completed in early 2018.

Sewer service in the surrounding neighborhoods will not be interrupted as a result of this ongoing rehabilitation effort.
