Meany PTSA Meeting
Please join us on Tuesday, September 24th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Meany library for the first PTSA general meeting of the school year. Everyone is welcome!
Come learn about some of the fun things we are planning for this year, hear school updates from Principal Oatis, meet some of the Meany staff, and connect with other Meany Middle School parents and caregivers. We will also hear details about the new health clinic at Meany!
A number of Meany students participated in the Seattle Climate Walkout today. Students joined a huge crowd at Cal Anderson Park in Capitol Hill and walked from there to City Hall in downtown Seattle. Read the letter sent out to families earlier this week by Principal Oatis on this topic.
Parents are invited to attend “A Day in the Life of Your Middle School Student” at Curriculum Night at Meany Middle School on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 pm.* Please come to meet all of your children’s teachers.
Due to space and time restrictions, Curriculum Night is an adult-only event.
Here is the schedule for that evening:

7:15-7:25 - 1st Period
7:30-7:40 - 2nd Period

Hopefully your student is taking advantage of some of the great after school activities and clubs at Meany. Students learn about the different opportunities through the morning announcements at school. Registration forms and information about clubs are available in the main office.
If you have an idea about a club or activity that you would like to propose for Meany, please contact Ms. Marshall in the main office. She can let you know the process of getting something started.

WHAT: COURTYARD GARDEN WORK PARTY
DATE: Friday, Oct. 18 from 9am - 1pm
WHERE: Meany small interior courtyard garden (adjacent to the Staff Lounge)
WHY: It will be fun! It's a great way to meet new parents and build community! It's a great way to be involved with the school and contribute to making it even better.
We will clear away old vegetation and prepare for planting a new multi-use garden space which will include a new outdoor classroom. No gardening skills necessary -- we will have extra tools and gloves on site.
For more information, please contact Anna Davidson.
Taste of Meany Potluck
Families, please join us for the inaugural Taste of Meany multicultural potluck dinner on Thursday, October 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm in the cafeteria!
Please bring a dish to share that’s important to your family, whether it represents your culture or is simply one of your family’s favorite dishes. Please feel free to label your dish with country of origin and/or why it’s important to your family!
Donations of non-perishable foods/snacks for our Counseling Department to have on hand at school for our food insecure students are also very welcome.
Meany Spirit Wear
Order your Meany Spirit Wear! Get ready for Meany Spirit Week (October 28 - November 1st) by ordering a Meany t-shirt, sweatshirt, cap, hat, or scarf.
Order forms were sent home with all students on Thursday. The last day to order is Friday, October 4.

Please contact Ms. Baker (Head Counselor) if you would like to order something but need financial assistance.

Meany Mountain Lion Sewing Club
Learn to sew and make cool stuff to take home! We will meet every Monday from 4:00-5:30pm. The first meeting will be on Monday, September 30th.
At each club meeting, we will work on projects like donut-magnets, zipper pencil pouches, drawstring backpacks, and t-shirt up-cycled designs.
Through these projects you will learn how to use sewing machines, read and understand patterns, identify and cut fabric, and alter and up-cycle old clothes.
Students of all skill levels welcome!
Turn in a Sewing Club Registration Form to join (printed copies available in the main office) — limited to the first 10 students.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Yearbook Club at Meany
Students who are interested in joining the Year Book Club to help produce the 2019-20 Meany Middle School yearbook may pick up a permission slip/contract in the Main Office or print the form here.
Our task will be to produce a high-quality, fun and exciting memory book for the students at Meany. We are excited to have students help organize this, do some artwork and layouts, and generally see what goes into the production of a printed publication.
Meetings will begin on Tuesday, October 15 after school from 4:00-5:00 pm. We expect to meet all throughout the months of October through March, with the possibility of meeting twice per week in March if needed. The deadline for the final design and layout is March 30th, 2020.
Please contact Ms. Sarah Marshall or Ms. Lisa St. George if you have any questions.
PHOTOS NEEDED! If you take any photos at any of Meany's sports games or school events, we would love for you to submit them to us for the yearbook. Please send photos via email to Ms. St. George. She will verify if students pictured in any of the submitted photos have photo release forms.

Ski Bus at Meany
We are gearing up for the third year of the Friends of Meany Ski Bus! While we are still waiting for final confirmation from WebbSki regarding specific dates and costs, we do know a few details.
- The ski bus will run on Friday nights for six weeks from early January until mid-February
- The bus leaves immediately after school and returns to Meany between 10:30-11:00.
- Students have the choice whether to sign up for lessons or have the entire time to ski on their own. Those who do sign up for lessons will also have some free time.
- All grade levels are welcome to participate.
It’s important to know that while there are chaperones on the bus, students will need to be able to function independently on the mountain.
It's also important to know that the ski bus is not a Meany or Seattle Public Schools sanctioned event.
We will need 2-3 adults to volunteer as chaperones for each night. Please contact John Sullivan (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.
