A Message from the NLO Executive Director

Labor Day honors and recognizes the work and contributions of laborers to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.  During this difficult time, we salute those who are working tirelessly to make our lives easier such as front line healthcare professionals, transportation workers, grocery store employees, first responders and countless others who continue to provide essential services during this pandemic. There are no words that can adequately express our gratitude for all that you are doing during this difficult time.

Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) companies are spreading a message of appreciation across the country. Through various “Appreciation Campaigns”, preparing and delivering meals, and sponsoring news podcasts to showcase our continued support of our local communities.

Our organization remains committed to engaging members and supporting theirs needs as much as possible. Take a moment to review the additional information below further showcasing BCBS companies devoting time and resources to workers and their families.

On behalf of the National Labor Office, I hope you are able to enjoy your Labor Day and please remember to thank those who continue to be involved in the labor movement.

In Unity,
Bonnie Summers

Did You Know:
On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the first Labor Day parade in U.S. history.
For generations, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) companies have provided secure and stable coverage to meet the healthcare needs of America’s working families. Proudly serving over 17 million unionized workers, retirees and their families — more than any other insurer — we are committed to remaining the top healthcare insurer for working Americans, now and in the future. The Blue Cross Blue Shield National Labor Office acts as a liaison between organized labor and our 36 BCBS companies, working hand in hand to ensure healthcare coverage for working Americans.
