Hi Everyone,

Mandy and Jonathan Chew here 💙

The world is in pain. There’s a lot of understandable terror, anger, and frustration right now. We mourn with you. We stand with you. We continue to try our best to survive together, especially through the hopelessness that seems to be 2020.

At times like these, we are always are trying to "Look for the helpers," as Mr. Rogers once advised. We are impressed with so many productive, life-giving, affirming, and caring people out there. The world is dark. But the light from all the helpers is so bright, we feel the warmth.

As the Science Fiction and Fantasy Nebula Awards kicked off last night, president Mary Robinette Kowal said, “The power to shape narrative is the power to shape reality.”  Let's go forth and shape tomorrow’s realities through the stories we tell, the lives we lead, with hope in the face of adversity, and courage in the best ways possible. We can help each other, not hurt each other, and foster a community grounded in trust and respect.

We all need to hear some good news —

"Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on."
~ Nick Fury

If you missed yesterday's SpaceX/NASA historic launch, here's a short highlights video. These were the First Astronauts to launch to the International Space Station from U.S. Since 2011. Find out more here.

When we saw the SpaceX launch yesterday, on this momentous historical occasion, we saw humanity pulling itself together, and coming together to do something amazing. To lift each other up. (Literally). To use human ingenuity to do something so powerful and so good that we figured out how to send our fragile tiny selves into the great unknown, to touch the sky, to see things from a different perspective.

We’re all on this same planet together. We’re all connected.
Stories of hope, friendship, and trust —

The real Lord of the Flies: what happened when six boys were shipwrecked for 15 months

By Rutger Bregman, The Guardian

If you're familiar with the book by William Golding, this is a twist on the story he told. Read to the middle of this article to find out what really happened when six boys were stranded for 15 months on an island.

"It’s time we told a different kind of story. The real Lord of the Flies is a tale of friendship and loyalty; one that illustrates how much stronger we are if we can lean on each other."

The Hong Kong Red Cross has appealed to recovered Covid-19 patients in the city to donate blood plasma to help those still sick with the disease, saying it can dramatically improve their condition.

Since the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service started collecting the plasma – the straw-coloured, liquid part of blood – about two weeks ago, only three packs of blood have been donated, by three recovered patients.

DreamForge Magazine

Connecting Dreamers - Past and Future

DreamForge is an independent, small press Magazine of Positive Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Our goal is to publish fiction and commentary that embody, in one way or another, these essential principles: integrity and decency, compassion and creativity, intelligence and inventiveness, the rule of law and liberty under the law, the dignity of the individual, and the power of synergy to unleash the potential of disparate individuals and communities for the betterment of all. We do not subscribe to hopelessness or futility as a vision of the future or of any setting or situation.

FIYAH Literary Magazine

Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction

FIYAH is a quarterly speculative fiction magazine that features stories by and about Black people of the African Diaspora.

It rises from the ashes of the Black literary tradition started by Fire!! in 1926. We aren’t here for respectability. We’re here to ask what it means to be Black and extraordinary.

“The dead cannot cry out for justice. It is the duty of the living to do so for them.”
