This week's most recent positive resources & insights to help you become the best version of yourself!
Mandy and Jonathan Chew here!
We hope you're having a happy August!
As always, thanks for reading!
We're SO excited to share all the positive resources and findings we've come across lately! We always try to share with you the most recent content that's out there! And as much of it as possible!
Because we know it can be a lot to digest sometimes, we definitely recommend starting with skimming the newsletter first and then reading/watching more of what resonates with you after :)
We know some people like to open this newsletter once a day too, picking just one article/quote/video to start the day off with. Then do the same the next day - and the next :)
But if you're like us, you'll probably binge on the whole thing in one sitting! We can't get enough positivity, love, and joy!
P.S. - For those of you just joining, welcome to this week’s edition of our bi-weekly newsletter, The Positopian, where every few weeks, we share the most recently published positive news, fiction, resources, & insights to help you become the best version of yourself!
Quotes We're Pondering This Week—
(We like to find a lot of these, so we recommend for you to pick your favorite single quote here that you read and try and focus on it throughout the week).
"If you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito in the room." ~Dalai Lama
"Don't give up on the person you are becoming." ~unknown
"It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own." ~Marcus Aurelius
"A sure way to lose happiness, I found, is to want it at the expense of everything else." ~Bette Davis
“Know that it’s your decisions, and not your conditions, that determine your destiny.” ~Tony Robbins
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing- that’s why we recommend it daily.” ~Zig Ziglar
"Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present." ~Jim Rohn
"Don't waste a minute not being happy. If one window closes, run to the next window — or break down a door." ~Brooke Shields
"There is no remedy for love but to love more." ~Henry David Thoreau
"Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be." ~Abraham Lincoln
“The comfort zone is a psychological state in which one feels familiar, safe, at ease, and secure. You never change your life until you step out of your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.” ~Roy T. Bennett
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” ~Theodore Roosevelt
"Many of us have had such difficult starts in life, we are unable to find the serenity and security we need to approach every new day with a reasonable degree of confidence. A short film to boost our sense that things can and will be OK."
This article walks you through a new self-care app/mobile game available on iOS devices. The app is meant to help you decompress and destress in a fun and unique way. "The premise of the self-care game is that you're literally chilling in bed, in a millennial pink and pastel room all day. Seriously."
"When your heart beats fast and your palms get sweaty because you're about to speak in public, you may feel like your ability to think clearly is affected. However, new research suggests the opposite may be true; your brain may be getting better at processing new information — at least when that information is "bad news."
"A sitting practice is great, but it’s not for everyone. Lots of folks meditate via other means, and many runners, for instance, report the profoundly calming and mind-clearing effects of their daily trek outside. So merging the two practices can work really well."
Arthur Brooks is a classical musician and a behavioral economist. He ties together philosophy, art, music, social science and neuroscience to suggest ways you can find happiness and success in every stage of life.
"As we look forward to a 21st century filled with massive mega-cities, and extraordinary technological innovation, we must ask how are our science fiction visions influencing the cities we build, and what can we learn from some of these prescient fictional texts?"
It’s massive, it’s magnetic, and it even produces its own light show.
A Thought We've Been Pondering—
"Listen to the mustn'ts, child.
Listen to the don'ts.
Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts.
Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me...
Anything can happen, child. Anything can be."
This poem by Shel Silverstein always gets us when we read it. We can't help but feel, as humans, we battle two different voices in our heads constantly. One that says can't and one that says can. Really, whatever voice we choose to listen to is the voice that ends up being correct in the long run.
This is a great inspirational coffee table book with fun references to all things Disney. The lessons taught in it are very motivating and full of Disney magic! The artwork is beautiful too. As a fangirl myself, I love all the wonderful nerdy and inspiring stories. Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Aso Katano in Star Wars, is a really great role model and I'm so happy to see someone work so hard for her dream and have it really come true.
“Any time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to raise your standards.”
“Three decisions that we all control each moment of our lives: what to focus on, what things mean, and what to do in spite of the challenges that may appear to limit us.”
“Anytime you have difficulty making an important decision, you can be sure that it’s the result of being unclear about your values.”
After reading Tony Robbin's first book, I wanted to continue learning how to be the best version of myself. So I picked up this book and it's now one of my favorite top recommended books of all time. The lessons learned in here I immediately started applying right away. From the morning power questions, to the transformational vocabulary, to learning more about the 10 power emotions. It was an invaluable journey into my own inner psyche and I could say it helped me break my patterns and freed up my energy and vibrancy to wake up excited each day. I can't recommend this book enough!
That’s it for now!
