This week's most recent positive resources & insights to help you become the best version of yourself!
Mandy and Jonathan Chew here as always :D
Happy End of March and Beginning of April! It definitely came in like a lion and is going out like a lamb. It's been a rainy couple months for Southern California and we've definitely needed it! No more drought to worry about here (officially ending after 7 years and causing some gorgeous super blooms). Spring has arrived and the weather is getting much warmer!
We've been trying out doing "monthly" experiments. Setting goals that last a month (30 days) and seeing if we can stick to it. Jonathan's goal this month was to go running at least every other day and stay in his aerobic heartrate zone (180 - your age) which has been known to raise physical vitality, endurance, and energy if you do it for a month or so! He tried it and he says he's feeling great!
Now that the 1st quarter of the year is done, what joy are you going to create for the 2nd quarter of the year? :)

A Positive Quote We're Pondering This Week—
"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
- George Bernard Shaw
Amazingly good timing, Time Magazine did a special issue on Optimism. It seems like it's on all our minds recently! We definitely need more of it.
"In this project, we explore not only the idea of optimism but its representation. The literal visibility of the proverbial bright side. To me, that is the job of art. To meet us where we are and to invite us in—to think, to feel, to wonder, to dream, to debate, to laugh, to resist, to roam, to imagine." ~ Ava DuVernay
This is a fun collection of images showing different happiness concepts from different cultures around the world!
Positive Books —
I'm a huge fan of the Heath brothers. They've written fantastic books such as Made to Stick and Switch: How to Change when Change is Hard and they just released a new book last year called The Power of Moments which we've neglected to read until now. In short, it's fantastic. If anyone is in the themed entertainment industry like we are, this should be the primer.
It's chock full of examples to help create powerful, positive, and meaningful moments for people. If you are a doctor or teacher or parent, this is a fantastic read and we've really enjoyed listening to the audiobook as well.
Here's a quick recap from the book -
We can be the authors of defining moments by building them from one or more of the following four elements:
1. Elevation - Moments of elevation are experiences that rise above the routine. They make us feel engaged, joyful, surprised, motivated.
2. Pride - Moments of pride commemorate people’s achievements.
3. Insight - Moments of insight deliver realizations and transformations.
4. Connection - Moments of connection bond us together.
Yes, it spells EPIC, and the authors poke fun at the acronym they created by saying you too can create "epic" moments for the people you love.
Here's to a wonderful end to March and a beautiful start to April!
