Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.

(With apologies to The New Yorker’s great Roger Angell, still going strong at 99!)

What a year we have had
With a White House this bad.

But we shan’t hang our heads,
Or take to our beds,
Instead we will gather
And work up a lather,
Recalling ups and downs,
Of the heroes and clowns.
We were utterly rapt by Fiona Hill
While Devin Nunes made us ill
Let us salute Marie Yovanovitch,
And picture Rudy in a Kiev ditch.

Lev and Igor have now become
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
The whistle blower would not be muted,
And Jim Jordan would not be suited.
Colonel Vidman touched our hearts
While Adam Schiff had all the smarts.
Will Turtle McConnell pop his shell?
Will Speaker Pelosi play him well?
Now, let’s move on to 2020,
Where candidates we have a-plenty.
Do not decry “disarrayed Dems,”
For in that field we’ve got our gems.
Hail Booker and Bloomberg and Sanders and Yang
Hail Bullock and Swalwell who left with no bang
Hail Biden and Blitzen and Warren and Pete
Hail Steyer and Bernie, our man on the street.
Hail Amy and Bloomberg and Williamson too
And Kamala who used to be part of the crew.
And we mustn’t forget Ms. Tulsi Gabbard,
For whom Hilary Clinton is packing her scabbard.

From this morass we’ll clear a path
Until we find the winning math.

Let Melania strive for the best she can be,
While chewing the fat with Sean Hannity.
Bless Rachel and Lawrence and Christopher Hayes,
Who have helped us survive these darkest of days.
And now we will end without saying the name,
Of He whose game is to simply defame,
We will prevail,
We cannot fail,
And so it’s time to drink wassail.

SEE YOU IN 2020.

As activist we began 2019 still ebullient from our NY CD19 victory and hopeful that the majority margin in the House would restore some democratic sensibilities. In New York State, many of the reforms that had languished for years have now been implemented. Does anyone still doubt that elections matter?

While Donald Trump has been impeached, he still holds our democracy hostage, enabled by political lemmings and a Senate Majority Leader representing a state with 4.5 million residents, which is roughly half the size of New York City. We know what needs to be done.

As we turn to 2020, the future of our republic is unknown.  It will take the commitment and toil of each of us to ensure that our democratic values continue.  Even as we are thankful for the hard work you have already provided, we know more is required. Together, we can and must make a difference. We look forward to joining with you in this effort.
With wishes for a Healthy, Peaceful and Successful 2020,

The ICNY Steering Committee

Columbia County Votes!

The Voter Registration team is organizing to begin work early in the New Year.  After last year's successful effort, this year will, among other things, continue to register second homeowners in five northern Columbia County towns.

If you are willing to help, please contact Tricia Lasky, Co-Chair of the Columbia County Votes team at  Please put "2020 5 towns" in the message header.

Postcards to Voters
The ICNY Postcard to Voters team will meet again in the New Year on the regular schedule, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00 - 4:00 at the CCDC HQ, 3 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.

Want to write postcards from home?  Go to the Postcards to Voters main site for more information.  The effort consists of over 61,000 volunteers in every state, and have written over 4 million postcards to voters in 177 key, targeted elections.

Our own team of 30 volunteers (thanks to each of you!) has sent out over 1400 postcards to date!

Helpful (and appreciated) tip: Bring some pre-stamped postcards (available at the post office) along with you.

Contact us at IndivisibleColumbiaNY@gmail if you have an event you think the community should be aware of.
