Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.

2020 Vision

"Where there is no vision, the people perish." So says the Book of Proverbs. Yet here we are, entering a new year and a new decade, with no more foresight emanating from this White House than we have witnessed in the last three years. Impulse is not strategy; arrogance is not policy. President Trump's impetuous decision to withdraw from the international agreement limiting Iran’s nuclear development was condemned world-wide. And now he has again acted with impunity to assassinate Iran’s military commander -- a decision contemplated and rejected by both Presidents Obama and George W. Bush as being far too risky. From his golf course in Palm Beach, our president would have us believe that this major escalation in tensions between the US and Iran -- undertaken with neither Congressional briefing, allied support, nor any verified imminent threat -- has somehow made the world "a safer place." This is of course the same Donald Trump who repeatedly predicted that President Obama would "...start a war with Iran in order to get elected." It is certainly possible that both the impeachment process shifting into full gear and the multiple court rulings against the administration’s policy of stonewalling are mere coincidences. Far more likely, however, is that “the people will perish” because of this president’s ego and the blind support of his base. Clearly the GOP has turned back in history to centuries before the Bible, when Hammurabi in ancient Babylon, wrote the code that has become their edict: “An eye for an
aye.”

The Voter Registration team is organizing to begin work early in the New Year.  After last year's successful effort, this year will, among other things, continue to register second homeowners in five northern Columbia County towns.

If you are willing to help, please contact Tricia Lasky, Co-Chair of the Columbia County Votes team at

It’s entirely possible that the 2020 election will hinge on the Democrats’ ability to attract young voters—and yet, as we know, young voters are not a robust voting bloc. Read the four articles below and come to the meeting, where we will put our heads together and see if we can come up with any good strategies to deal with this problem in our district.

Postcards to Voters
The ICNY Postcard to Voters team will be back to work starting Tuesday, January 7th and Wednesday, January 8th from 2:00-4:00
at the CCDC HQ, 3 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. We’ll be part of a very important new project: we’re going to write to registered democrats in Texas who live in “flippable” districts.

We do have pre-stamped postcards but we can always use more. They're available at most post offices. We look forward to seeing you. This year is here!  The work gets more pressing.

Want to write postcards from home?  Go to the Postcards to Voters main site for more information.  The effort consists of over 61,000 volunteers in every state, and have written over
4 million postcards to voters in 177 key, targeted elections.

Our own team of 30 volunteers (thanks to each of you!) has sent out over 1400 postcards to date!
