Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.

Moving Ahead
Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.
With those words, the great Roman Polanski-Jack Nicholson film about corruption in Depression-era L.A. came to an end, signifying how hopeless it is to try to fight the injustice and darkness that define the world. The bad guys always win.
Right now, many of us are feeling that we are in a Chinatown moment. We thought better angels would prevail, but we have witnessed a shocking display of dishonesty, cowardice, and wholesale contempt for the American people, 75% of whom supported the calling of witnesses so that this “trial” would not be a sham. But, resoundingly, it was a sham, and the result is that we are watching our nation become something other than what we have always known it to be. The bad guys have won for the moment, but perhaps we can take some small comfort in knowing that The Bad Guy will be the world’s worst winner and thereby make himself even more unpopular.
Right now, it is imperative that we reject the notion of “Chinatown.” And instead of clutching our teddy bears or retreating to our screaming rooms, let’s remember what Christopher Robin said to his teddy bear, Pooh: “You’re Braver than you believe, and Stronger than you seem, and Smarter than you think.”
Let’s be braver, stronger, and smarter together—and do everything we can to win. The 2020 election will be the most important one we have ever lived through. That means all hands on   deck. Please know that we are planning a robust campaign of canvassing, postcard-writing, phone banking, public information events, and much more. Our efforts paid off in 2018; with your help, it can—and must—happen again.

This Wednesday, hundreds of thousands of Americans will mobilize with a simple demand: Reject The Coverup.
Please join us at one of our rallies in Albany, Pittsfield or Kingston!

On Immigration

As many of you are aware, NYS achieved a major win for immigrants with passage of Green Light NY, which gives access to drivers licenses to all New Yorkers, regardless of their document status. Our friends at Columbia County Sanctuary Movement (CCSM) have been co-sponsors in passing and helping to implement this new law. If you're interested in volunteering for CCSM, or you just want to learn more about what they do, contact them at this link. The next Volunteer Orientation session will be on Monday, March 16th.
