Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.
American Heroes

This week, let’s step away, shall we, from the depravity of the Trump administration, with all its corruption, crudeness, and cruelty. Instead, let’s focus on giving thanks (a full month before turkey time) to the women and men who are defying White House orders and giving testimony to House committees about all that they witnessed. We are talking about people like Marie Yovanovitch, Fiona Hill, George Kent, and William Taylor—serious professionals who have served our nation honorably and ethically. Over the last three weeks, the maligned “deep state” has shown itself as a procession of government officials who have decided that enough is enough and truth must be told. And let us reserve special thanks for the anonymous whistle blower who got all this going, and Rep. Adam Schiff, who is currently the target of a censure effort by the odious Lindsey Graham. In fact, why not sit down for a moment and shoot a note of thanks to Adam Schiff at He deserves it.
Speaking of American Heroes, we also offer our thanks to the brave men and women of the American military who risk their lives, and this past week participated in a successful mission to eliminate the head of ISIS.
Get Out The Vote Rally with Antonio Delgado

When: Sunday, Nov 3, 10:00am–11:00am
Where: Winding Brook Country Club, 2839 Route 203, Valatie

Rally with Antonio Delgado and then help knock on doors to Get Out The Vote for Kinderhook's great candidates, Peter Bujanow and Bill Mancini. We need everyone's help and enthusiasm to elect all of our Democratic candidates throughout the county. Please let us know if you can help!  RSVP here

An analysis of the voting records of all New York State Legislators compiled by the Environmental Planning Lobby (EPL) shows that our Democratic controlled legislature made remarkable progress this past year. The legislature had the most environmentally friendly session in “a generation” according to the report prepared by the EPL. Our State Assemblymember Claverack Dem Didi Barrett (D-106) had a top voting score of 100, while sadly our State Senator Daphne Jordan’s (R-43) score of 49 was the lowest of any of our Columbia County state legislators.

Senator Jordan was absent or voted against 14/35 pieces of environmental legislation. She voted against the Climate Leadership Community Protection Act, the Environmental Rights Act, the Closing Hazardous Waste Loophole, the ABC’s of Stream Protection Act, the Child Safe Products Act and the Chlorpyrifos Ban. These pieces of legislation to protect the health of our residents and safeguard our natural resources are areas of great importance to our farmers and families and critical to the economic vitality here in Columbia County. She is out of step, and out of touch with our local needs and concerns.

The Little Blue Book by George Lakoff
Thursday November 14, 7:30pm
Where: Democratic HQ, 3 Railroad Ave., Chatham, NY

Quite a few Indivisible chapters around the country are reading the work of George Lakoff, a cognitive linguist and philosopher at Berkeley whose work is informing the efforts of progressives. For our next book group, we will be reading a slim volume called The Little Blue Book, which should provoke some real thinking for anyone who is going to be out there canvassing over the next year. “The essential handbook for thinking and talking Democratic—must reading not only for every Democrat but for every responsible citizen” says Robert B. Reich, former Secretary of Labor.
