Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.
Have They No Shame?

Adlai Stevenson wrote that, “A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.” Well, there was our president mounting that stump on July 4th, stroking his donors while he was fawning over the military. At the same time, however, the Trump Administration is looking to terminate the “Parole in Place” policy. This program, instituted by President George W. Bush, prevents spouses and loved ones of deployed soldiers from being deported.

"The troops can't concentrate on their military jobs when they're worried about their family members being deported," Margaret Stock, an immigration attorney who works with the military and their families, told NPR. "It's going to create chaos in the military." Great timing when Trump is talking about “obliterating” Iran!  Keep in mind too that an estimated 130,000 soldiers have been naturalized since 2013, so that means we are talking about a lot of people whose lives could be senselessly and cruelly disrupted (thank you, Stephen Miller).

And so it goes...

A Vigil to End Human Detention Centers

On Friday July 12th, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps, will bring thousands of Americans to detention camps across the country, into the streets, and into their own front yards to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees. Join us in Albany at 7:00pm at West Capitol Park on State Street and make your voice heard, as we remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” If you are looking to carpool, email us at: IndivisibleColumbiaNY@gmail.com and we will try to match you up with someone who is going.
