Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.

Do The Right Thing
In the wake of this weekend’s double dose of horror—El Paso and Dayton—the full malignancy of the Trump era is revealed. When you stir up hatred, people die. It’s as simple, and tragic, as that. So, what is the right response? To hector our Members of Congress about gun control? Yes. To vote out those members who are in debt to the NRA? Yes. But it is also incumbent upon all of us to call out what is so profoundly wrong. The Washington National Cathedral did an excellent job of that in a statement that they issued on July 30, which contained these words:
As faith leaders who serve at Washington National Cathedral ¬– the sacred space where America gathers at moments of national significance – we feel compelled to ask: After two years of President Trump’s words and actions, when will Americans have enough?
We have come to accept a level of insult and abuse in political discourse that violates each person’s sacred identity as a child of God. We have come to accept as normal a steady stream of language and accusations coming from the highest office in the land that plays to racist elements in society.
When does silence become complicity? What will it take for us all to say, with one voice, that we have had enough? The question is less about the president’s sense of decency, but of ours.
No more silence. Let us feel the pain of these families that have had their loved ones stolen away, and let us fight the fight to take back our democracy.

Help us inform your Congressman what his priorities should be!  We took a survey some months ago, and it's time request an update of your opinion.  Resistance Group Leaders from across CD19 will meet with Congressman Delgado soon, and want to report your thoughts.

It's only three questions - please go to the survey HERE.

Postcards to Voters
Tuesday, August 6th 2-4pm
Wednesday, August 7th 2-4pm
 3 Railroad Street, Chatham

Did you know that you can promote Democratic turnout in key states right from the heart of Chatham? Join us as we send brief, handwritten postcards to Democratic and independent voters in embattled regions, a practice that has been statistically shown to boost voter participation. The first task will be to contact voters in Florida, letting them know that they can call their Board of Elections on the telephone to receive a ballot by mail. We plan to engage in this work right through 2020, becoming part of a legion of volunteers who will make a difference in our political future.

Cheryl for Supreme Court Justice

Come support Cheryl Roberts at the 3rd Judicial District Nominating Convention on August 9th!

We are hoping for as many people as possible to attend as witnesses to support Cheryl. We must show that there are many of us who will no longer stand by while qualified female candidates are set aside in favor of politically connected men and allow our Supreme Court to be hand-picked by party bosses accountable to few others.

This will not be a time for being rowdy. We plan to be as dignified as Cheryl, who is clearly a class act!

Details, including transportation and RSVP here.
