Welcome to the ICNY Update

Working together to resist the Trump agenda and fight for democratic ideals.

Our Barnum and Bailey World

It has been said that the admonition “May you live in interesting times” actually originated as a Chinese curse reserved for enemies upon whom was wished impending danger and uncertainty.  “Interesting,” to be sure, but by this definition, the last two and a half years of the Trump presidency have been positively absorbing, engrossing, fascinating, riveting, gripping, compelling, spellbinding, captivating, enthralling and downright entrancing.  How else to make any sense of the upside-down, black-is-white, nightmare of our daily bombardment?  A president who is our conspirator-in-chief?  Whose notion of comforting the grieving is to boast about his crowd size?  Who body shames a protestor from his bully pulpit?  Who leans on a foreign ally to ban political opponents their right to travel?   So crazy has our world become that the very possibility of a looming recession – with its characteristic increases in unemployment and corresponding drop in consumer spending, uncertainty and investment losses – can almost be welcomed as a harbinger of hope, at least to the extent an economic downturn might upset the Trumpian applecart.  Yes, we have come to this.  Oh, to return to those uninteresting – and positively boring days – of yesteryear.

Postcards to Voters Continues
300 and counting!
Tuesday, August 20th 2-4pm
Wednesday, August 21st 2-4pm
Columbia County Democrats HQ
3 Railroad Street, Chatham

Did you know that you can promote Democratic turnout in key states right from the heart of Chatham? Join us as we send brief, handwritten postcards to Democratic and independent voters in embattled regions, a practice that has been statistically shown to boost voter participation. We've already sent 300 postcards to voters in Florida and North Carolina. We plan to engage in this work right through 2020, becoming part of a legion of volunteers who will make a difference in our political future.

October 3 at 7:30 pm at Basilica Hudson
Hosted by IndvisibleColumbiaNY and Basilica Hudson.
