Ohio Redistricting 101 and How You Can Help

Join us on Tuesday, May 4th at 7 PM to learn how the new Ohio redistricting process will work.   Katy Shanahan, Ohio State Director of All on the Line, a national campaign to end gerrymandering, will be our guide to the process and the new rules for our Ohio electoral maps.  She also will provide information on how you can be actively involved in lobbying elected officials, sharing information in your community and creating fair maps.

We all agree that voters should choose their elected officials, not the other way around. Learn how you can be involved to have an impact on drawing fair districts.  From putting pressure on Ohio legislators to get the ball rolling, to joining with others in your community to recommend fair maps, to keeping pressure on elected officials to enact fair maps, we all need to be involved.

May 13, 2021–General Meeting
Join us for our regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 13 at 7 PM.  We hope you all know that 2021 will bring the first elected mayor in Cleveland Heights history!  Our special program for May 13 is transition of the Cleveland Heights government structure to an elected mayor.  We will have a presentation by Len Friedson of Citizens for an Elected Mayor, with opportunity for discussion.

3.  2021 Community Forum on Issues for Mayoral Candidates

Cleveland Heights Democrats, we have an historic election for mayor of Cleveland Heights this year.  We will be hosting some candidate forums in a couple of months.  Preliminary to the candidate forums, we plan to identify some important issues and goals, focusing on our Democratic values, that we’d like to hear the mayoral candidates discuss.  We are interested, of course, in your input on those issues, as well as input from other community organizations that share our Democratic values.
In addition to your participation in this process, do you participate in another Cleveland Heights organization that has issues and goals they'd like to see addressed by Cleveland Heights' first elected mayor?
Join us in a forum on community concerns for a new mayor, to be hosted in late May or early June. What we envision is an event where a representative can speak to their group's concerns, and then the floor can be opened to our members and other community members to ask questions of participating groups or provide commentary.
We want to be a platform where organizations that share Democratic values can communicate with each other and the mayoral candidates in the audience, and elevate their specific concerns in the civic conversation!
If you would like to suggest another Cleveland Heights community organization that would be interested in participating, please email CH Dems President Linda Striefsky and Trustee Rosa Kovacevich BY CLICKING HERE. If your organization has any questions about this event, or would like to talk more, please email Linda and Rosa and you can arrange a time to chat.
Please let Linda and Rosa know by May 7th if your group is interested in participating.
Our work is made possible through the generous contributions of our members. Please consider donating below.
