BRUTAL BLAST /// ISSUE 8

Version 1.6 Released!

1.6 is here, and there's lots of new brutality! There is an updated design to all the pages - not as much red! You'll notice that there is also now a new "glued" menu in the sidebar, which includes anchor links to sections within the page.

What's new in 1.6?

  • FLAVORS: 2 new flavors, 8 new color combos, new "bacon" gradient
  • BUTCH: New right-to-left text
  • BUIX: New tabs!
  • BFX: New chop-text and animated gradient backgrounds
  • GRID: Deprecated default grid, added new B3Grid
  • TEMPLATES: New Blog Post List template
NEW GRILLED FLAVORS
Summer is around the corner, and it's time to grill! There are now 2 new brown flavors: bbq and steak!
There is also now a new bacon-flavored gradient!
Bacon
8 new color combos have been added:
  • Silver-Blood
  • Mango-Cherry
  • Success (green)
  • Warning (yellow)
  • Info (blue)
  • Alert (red)
  • Disabled (grey)
  • Ready (orange)
BUTCH - Right-to-Left Text
The only update to BUTCH is the addition of right-to-left text. Simply apply the class .rtl to any text!

BFX - Chop Text and Animated Gradient Backgrounds
There are two new features: Chop-Text and animated gradient backgrounds.

Chop-Text allows you to truncate text to either 64, 128, or 256 characters. This is useful if you wish to shorten the description in a blog post list.

There are also now 6 new animated gradient backgrounds: plain, hot, water, vampire, shine, and pastel.

BUIX - Tabs Are Here!!
Tabs are purely CSS-based, so no javascript is required, and markup is fairly straight forward. You can put any type of content you want within a tab, and you can create custom layouts within a tab using any of the included grids.

Default Grid is Now Deprecated
The default grid is still included, but is now considered deprecated. Why? Two reasons. One reason is because BF includes Flexbox grid. Flex is the way of the future, so we've decided to get rid of the default grid. The other reason is because the Flexbox grid is similar to the Bootstrap grid, so deprecating the default grid makes sense, as most developers are already familiar with Bootstrap. The current default grid will be fully removed as of version 2.

Introducing B3Grid - Brutal Blocks 'n Bricks Grid
We've developed a small and simple grid using flex. This is ideal for lists of content blocks, such as a list of blog posts or product pages.
Blocks are flex containers that can have both a width and height applied, whereas bricks are inline blocks that can only have a width applied.
Blocks and bricks can be nested within blocks. Discover the grid!

New Blog Post List Template
There is a new blog post list template, which makes use of chop-text and blocks grid.

All templates are now in a new directory called "starting-points".

Third-Party Templates Needed!
We are now looking for templates - built with BF - to add to the Third Party Templates list. These can free or paid. To submit one, send us the title, description, and demo URL to: butch@brutalistframework.com.
