BRUTAL BLAST /// ISSUE 12
Roadmap for 2020
It's a new year, new decade, and there's new brutality coming! Here's a roadmap of what's coming this year.
Version 2.0.2.0 Release
Plans have changed for BF version 2. Originally, the plan was to release a PHP version, but that has since been made a low priority. I have decided to keep the main releases as HTML / CSS. This is due in part to my limited availability to dedicate time to further development of BF.
Here are a few things coming in 2.0.2.0:
- Complete design overhaul
- Re-work of grid
- New animations and effects
- Modular and ajaxed content
- Various bug fixes and other features TBD
Currently, BF 1.9 depends on jquery for some of it's javascript-based components. Looking ahead to version 2, it may be best to a no-dependency approach and just use vanilla javascript. However, this could potentially mean dropping some of the current effects. The path on this remains to be seen.
Brutalist Theme for Concrete5 CMS
Concrete5 CMS is an open source content management system that is based on PHP and MySQL. I am working on a premium theme that is based off of BF 1.9, and it will feature:
- Built-in PayPal shopping cart
- Over a dozen custom layout options
- Easy management of design and other settings
- CSS-only Mega Menu!
- Many other features
The theme is currently under active development, with an ETA of mid- to late Spring 2020.
Below is a screenshot of the Concrete5 front-end drag-n-drop interface with an early BETA version of the upcoming Brutalist theme.

PHP Version
As mentioned above, the PHP version is now low priority. However... it's not dead! Once version 2.0.2.0 has been released, there will be more focus on the PHP version.
