 Spring Has Sprung! (Hopefully...)

April showers brings May flowers...or April snow fall brings May Flowers. We hope everyone braved the last cold spell we had! We are looking forward to spring sunshine and warm weather and we're sure you are too.
May is National Pet Month! We love pets and will be celebrating the whole month and we want you to celebrate with us! Post a picture of your pet with their favorite toy to social media and tag us in it! Use #PetLadyPets on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, at the end of May each pet will receive a small prize!
June is National Pet Preparedness Month.  At The Pet Lady, Ltd. we take disaster and emergency preparedness very seriously. Check out our article below for tips for your family and your pets.  June is also National Microchipping Month.  Microchipping can be one of the first lines of defense in case your pet escapes or you are separated from your pet in an emergency situation.
Pet Sitters International Take Your Pet to Work Week is June 16-June 22. During this time, many businesses around the country take part by allowing employees to bring pets into their work place for a day or part of a day to celebrate. June 17 is Take Your Cat to Work Day and June 21 is Pet Sitters International Take Your Dog to Work Day.
Check with your employer to see if they take part in this event.
 Pet Preparedness
Disasters can happen any time and depending on where you live disasters may vary.  Pet owners should have a pet-friendly family emergency plan, here are eight tips to help prepare you and your pet for a disaster:
1. Understand the possibilities. Recognize the different types of natural and man-made disasters that can occur in your area and know how to prepare for them.
2. Plan your response. Different disasters require different courses of action
3. Update Identification. Make sure your pets have tags with your current contact information and make sure their microchip is up to date with your current contact information.
4. Keep your pet's records handy. Create a file for each pet with current vaccination records and a recent photo.
5. Research animal friendly places.  Know where you and your pets can relocate if needed during a disaster or emergency situation.
6. Stock up on emergency supplies. These include leashes, extra bowls, water, food and carriers.
7. Get a carrier. Have a properly sized carrier for each pet.
8. Communicate your plan. Not only should you discuss your disaster plan with your family, but your pet sitter or anyone else who cares for your pet should know your plan and where things are kept that would be needed.

For additional information visit the Pet and Animal Emergency Planning section of FEMA's website.
