China Sourcing:

Trade show organizer offers free virtual matchmaking in July as China Sourcing Fairs remain closed in 2021.  Here is how to sign up.

During my career in China, I got in the habit of attending the Global Sources’ China Sourcing Fair in Hong Kong every April and October. I had the pleasure of serving as a key note speaker a few times and even accepted their offer to host the “ask the experts” service.  Since the in-person trade shows won’t be happening anytime soon, Global Sources launched a service called MATCH to help their large scale buyers select professional suppliers.  Now they are rolling out the same match making events for small to medium sized buyers too. And it’s free!    I am a volunteer co-organizer and Global Sources is offer this full match making service to my friends, clients and readers of this newsletter!

Register for the free match making event today and get the same level of support given to these guys:

What makes Global Sources MATCH so special?
  1. BUYER-ORIENTED: Identify relevant suppliers based entirely on their buyers’ needs. No hidden commissions. No pushy salespeople.
  2. PREMIUM SERVICE: A dedicated team will help shortlist suppliers and line up meetings, eliminating the hassle of doing own research.
  3. RELIABLE CHANNEL: All Global Sources suppliers are pre-screened and 100% verified.
  4. COST-SAVING: The customised service is offered for FREE if you mention you heard about the event while reading my newsletter!
Key dates:  Register today (before July 2nd at the latest) so the match-making research can be done for you in time for the main event on July 14 & 15th.

Where: Online. Various Time Zones.

The registration page is for the electronics industry, but I spoke to the host today and confirmed all categories are welcome to join.

Let me know when you have signed up and I’ll look for you at this virtual event!

China Law & Business:

As the in-person trade shows were canceled in Asia this year, I didn’t have the opportunity to conduct the usual round of speaking engagements.  Instead, I rode out Covid-19 in rural Upstate NY and used the time to created dozens of tutorials. I have posted them online as short mini-courses and whitepapers.  Full descriptions are found at but here is an overview of the topics covered:

Most of the courses are free!  Reach out to me via the “contact us” form and let me know which course(s) you wish to take.  I will be happy to send you a passcode and instructions on how to unlock the content.

China Law & Business:

I’m an avid reader of  because it helps me stay away from the bad suppliers and the tricky scams.  According to their website,  “there is no functional Better Business Bureau or government entity willing to crack down on scams and unethical practices overseas. is a free, user-generated platform designed to fill this void in the marketplace”. It’s a place to voice grievances and help other buyers avoid bad suppliers.  The latest scams are listed on their home page and you can do a free search of listings going back to 2012.
In the past few months, there have been a bunch of blacklisted suppliers for PPE, and the amounts are not small.  In this case, the buyer shares all the details of how the order fell short and even posts pictures of the supplier to warn other buyers.
I also notice the scammers are specifically targeting  buyers who purchase less than 5000 USD per order, like this buyer and this buyer.  I bet buyers who are small are less likely to use contracts or conduct due diligence. So they are soft targets for the scammers.
