We're Halfway Through Hunger Action Month!

We've been busy this month - taking action to solve hunger and engaging our elected officials to join our efforts! To see what we've been doing, and for more ways that you can get involved, check out our update below:

Elected Officials at the 9/11 National Day of Service

Last Friday, we welcomed volunteers to all four of our centers for special volunteer shifts as a part of the 9/11 National Day of Service. We had multiple elected officials join us throughout the day to help serve our neighbors by sorting and packing groceries. Pictured above are Rep. Michelle Mussman and Rep. Barbara Hernandez (left photo, second from left and first from right, respectively), Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (top right photo), and Senator Jim Oberweis (bottom right photo).

Launching our Advocacy Web Page

To kick off Hunger Action Month, we launched our brand new advocacy web page! This page will help keep you up-to-date on the advocacy activities happening at the Food Bank, inform you about our key legislative issue areas, and help you become a Hunger Advocate. Check it out here:

Hunger Action Day

This Hunger Action Day, we turned our social media channels orange for hunger awareness! Pictured below are posts from two of our elected officials - Congressman Sean Casten and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos - who helped us promote the day and spread awareness of hunger in our communities!
Here are reminders of ways you can still take action:
  • 9/22 - National Voter Registration Day - Follow and share our Tweet-storm, encourage your friends and family to register, and register, or make sure you're registered, by clicking here.
  • Complete the 2020 Census - September 30th is the LAST DAY you can complete the 2020 Census. You count, so make sure you get counted!
  • Share on Social Media - Share our information to spread awareness this Hunger Action Month. Interested in doing more to solve hunger on social media? Learn how you can become a Social Media Ambassador.
  • Contact Your Elected Officials - Send emails, make calls, or write your members of Congress to ask them to prioritize hunger - especially during the pandemic. Find your elected officials and their contact information here.
For more ways to get involved, visit our Hunger Action Month Web Page.

If you know someone else who would like to become a Hunger Advocate, please feel free to forward this email or encourage them to subscribe to our alerts.
Thank you for being a Hunger Advocate. Together we can solve hunger!
